I'm still enjoying The Simpsons. I grew up with them and I really don't ever want them to leave. Supernatural is getting better with Season Eight and I hope they at least get to tell the entire three season story arc that Robert Singer is planning.

TV Shows that ended too soon...

    Boomtown
    Deadwood
    Outsourced
    Jericho
    Firefly
    Rome
(I really hope Community won't be on this list. SixSeasonsAndAMovie!)

TV Shows that won't seem to die...

    CSI
    Family Guy
    Two and a Half Men
Two Broke Girls (Even though it's the second season, it got old really fast)
Whitney (That should have never been made)

(I'm only listing shows that I have actually watched a few or more episodes of. I would list Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who because I've only tried watching one or two episodes and just don't get either of them.)

Nothing really strikes me regarding shows that ended too soon. Most of the shows mentioned in that category, I either never watched, or saw them once or twice and didn't like them.

So...in the "Overstayed Their Welcome" category......

Happy Days- Should have ended when Ron Howard left the show. Henry Winkler may have been the breakout star, but Ron Howard was the heart of the show and it became painfully evident when he was gone. When he and Donny Most left, and you didn't have the core group of characters of Richie, Fonzie, Ralph, and Potsie anymore, it just wasn't the same show, and trying to build the show around Joanie and Chachi ultimately didn't work.

That 70s Show- The final season really wasn't necessary. Eric leaving for Africa was the perfect note to end the series on. Plus, it became evident just how much Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher carried that show. The new guy who took Eric's place in the last season really didn't fit in with the group, and it seems the producers knew it, which is why he didn't have much to do by the time of the finale.

Two and a half Men- I think they've kept this going purely out of a "We can't let Charlie Sheen have the last laugh" attitude. The show is nowhere near as good as it was with Sheen at the helm. They should have just ended it.

ER- Once Noah Wyle left, and the last of the original core cast was gone, that should have been it. There were still good episodes here and there, but it was just coasting on it's laurels after that for the most part.

Grey's Anatomy- This was once one of my favorite shows, but I've almost completely lost interest in it at this point. On the flipside, I'm pretty bummed out that "Private Practice" will be ending after this season, as I think it's developed into a better show than "Grey's" and it had a lot of life still left in it.

Law & Order: SVU- It's just not the same show without Christopher Meloni. As much as I like Mariska Hargitay, you can see she really has no chemistry with either of the new characters, and it's been put around that she either may leave before season's end, or she won't be back next season if the show does come back. If either scenario proves true, the show should be put out to pasture.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot these two. "The Neighbors". Holy crap, that show is terrible! If there was ever a show that definitely deserved to be cancelled after one airing, that would be it. If that show somehow doesn't get axed, and "Mockingbird Lane", which was surprisingly pretty good, doesn't get a pick-up, there's no justice

Whitney- Whitney Cummings is nice to look at, but she's NOT funny. Neither is her show.

Grey's Anatomy went down fast, it was a pretty good show when it started, it quickly became a really shitty soap opera. You could almost set a clock to when that show when bad, it was a soon as Oprah started talking about it.

But 98.623% of people who watched it think it should have run several more seasons. It should still be on the air in fact. Fox just severely blew it when they cancelled it.
NO THEY DON'T! I have never, in my life heard anyone say it's the greatest sci-fi show of all time. Not once. It's a good show (don't get me wrong), which ended waaaay too soon; but it's ripped off of Cowboy BeBop; and didn't have time to mature, and show us what it was about.

    Taken Too Young:

    Jericho
    Deadwood
    Firefly
Ultraviolet (British vampire show, awesome, although it may have been developed as a miniseries)
    Rome
JLU (just because I miss it)
Spaced (I just want more dammit)
    Green Wing (see above)
    Jekyll

    Stuck Around Too Long

Only Fools and Horses (they ended it perfectly, shouldn't have carried on)
    Chuck (I didn't need Season 5 and arguably 4)
Dexter (Season 4 was the pinnacle, although possibly not a real conclusion to the story)
24 (although I'm on the fence with this)

    Show that ended too soon.

My Name is Earl : 2006-2009 : Show ended on a cliffhanger. There is talk of a movie to finish off everything .

Show that stayed past its welcome

Drew Carey Show : 1995-2004 : The show should have ended in 2001 with Kate and Drew getting married. Instead ABC gave it a 2 year renewel , regretted it as the 8th season became a low rated nightmare. They basically held the show in the can for a year and ran out episodes.

Do you get to watch the Sopranos when it was coming on tv at all?
Yea I watched it when it was on tv, I think there was nothing like watching the Sopranos every week cause you never knew what was going to happen. I'll never forget when Tony fought Ralph, it came out of nowhere, it was so sudden and brutal and bloody and great. I thought at the time "see this is why I watch that show". lol I agree that in the last few years they started losing momentum. And then I bought all the DVD sets and watched them back to back and realised how good it was, even without the element of surprise. And watching it on DVD it was as good but in a different way. Ths is when I realised "I want some more". Alas...

I always thought Jekyll was a finite show like a mini-series? Maybe i'm wong but I got the feeling their blew thier load very early, the final felt something like it should have been done many years from now yet they did everything they could do with the character in a short span out of time. Maybe they felt pressure and decided to go all out before being cancelled. They should re-do it as an American show with the same writers.

I loved this show with the exception of the "time-travel" element.

that was turned down by NBC about a month ago and aired a couple weeks ago on Halloween

I think Star Trek: The Next Generation could have used one more season, to be honest, just to wrap up a few side stories here and there. But "All Good Things" should have still been the finale.

See I used to feel exactly this way. I loved the Simpsons something fierce, I even had books that were episode guides, etc. that covered something like the first 5-7 seasons. It was to the point where whenever my parents would want to punish me it would be "no Simpsons". Heck I remember when Fox used to show like 3 reruns of the show per day around 5pm every weekday and even missing those tended to really upset me. It's just something along the way..after something like the year 2000 I just felt the show was slowing losing what made it special. I'm not saying it hasn't had any good episodes since 2000..but just to me it seemed like in the past we used to get a lot more awesome episodes per season.

Supernatural is getting better with Season Eight and I hope they at least get to tell the entire three season story arc that Robert Singer is planning.
I'll always love Supernatural and unless it gets as bad as something like the latest season of Fringe..I'd like it to stick around. It also kills me to say that about Fringe because I really wanted to love the final season.

About Supernatural, I would only consider watching it again, if they brought back Jeffrey Dean Morgan. They should bring him back from Hell and make him some badass Warlock or something.
