    Default New Batman reader questions

Hey, this is my first time on this site and posting within it's forums. I have recently become interested in getting into comic books whether it be actual comic books or graphic traders or novels. I wanted my first read to be Batman. I have always been interested in Batman and wanted to know more back story. I tried searching for a related thread and I did read the top thread for new readers and found it very helpful. But, I was curious what order should I read which books to stay with a semi organized timeline. I just read Year One and found it amazing. I was also wondering which books will go even further back to inform me on stories with Bruce Wayne before he became Batman. It's overwhelming to see there is so much and trying to start fresh. Thanks in advance.

There's a thread at the top for new readers.

Personally I recommend you read Batman : The Dark Knight Returns and Batman : The Long Halloween first if you liked Year One.

After that read Grant Morrison's entire Batman run.
Jean Grey : What makes you such a bitch, Emma?
Emma Frost : Breeding, darling. Top class breeding.

wow. that's a incredible list. I was doing some searches on them and it seems it is in order. May I ask where you came across this list? And these books would be known as traders, correct?

Many of the dedicated collectors can simply look at their bookshelf and write them in that order - many of us put them on our shelves in such a chronological order . I know my shelves generally match that order - though I would point out that 1/3 to 1/2 of those books aren't so good (some are downright terrible) and aren't worth buying or even reading.

Pick a few that are really critical to the backstory of Batman ("Year One," "Long Halloween," "Dark Knight Returns", perhaps) and then, after that point, feel free to read in whichever order interests you - when you find a book that is highly rated and seems like it piques your interest, then go for it.

The term "trade" is short for "trade paperback," which is generally a bound softcover collection of comics. It can refer to a collection of issues previously published in single form (either as part of a long-running title like "Batman" or as a miniseries), or it can be an original graphic novel, only ever published in such a bound form. Alternatively, they can be referred to as "graphic novels" - and now many are available in hardcover as well as paperback.
