Many of the dedicated collectors can simply look at their bookshelf and write them in that order - many of us put them on our shelves in such a chronological order

. I know my shelves generally match that order - though I would point out that 1/3 to 1/2 of those books aren't so good (some are downright terrible) and aren't worth buying or even reading.
Pick a few that are really critical to the backstory of Batman ("Year One," "Long Halloween," "Dark Knight Returns", perhaps) and then, after that point, feel free to read in whichever order interests you - when you find a book that is highly rated and seems like it piques your interest, then go for it.
The term "trade" is short for "trade paperback," which is generally a bound softcover collection of comics. It can refer to a collection of issues previously published in single form (either as part of a long-running title like "Batman" or as a miniseries), or it can be an original graphic novel, only ever published in such a bound form. Alternatively, they can be referred to as "graphic novels" - and now many are available in hardcover as well as paperback.
