No that is not the case. Dr. Crusher said it could kill everyone on a planet and it wouldn't make sense for Shinzon to try to kill everyone on Earth with a weapon that could only kill 25,000 people.

See, I know that wouldn't make sense: That's why I remembered it as being one of the various silly things about the film.

I guess I'd have to go back and watch it again to find what I was talking about though, it's been a few years.

Well, the Scimitar can move in reverse. At least once Captain Traffic Barrier tells it to, ya know, after the lumbering slow nearly disabled moving ship has rammed into his vessel.

By the by I can't help but think if a Destroyer and the Simitar did ram into each other it'd be about the same as a Semi Truck running into a Pinto, the Scimitar was a hair shy of 900 meters long, a Star Destroyer is 1,600 meters long, and built FAR more densely(much of the scimitar superstructure was narrow supports linking the engines to the bridge). In addition during Empire Vader's fleet flew at full speed into the Hoth Asteroid Field and stayed there for days, and while they took damage in there it still suggest a very high tolerance to physical impacts.

edit: Not that it matters, starting distance is adjusted as need be in these kinds of rumbles.

Nemesis had a lot of plot holes and bad writing, but I don't think that was one of the problems. However the Scimitar never got a chance to use the radiation weapon, near the end of the movie, Shinzon was dying and the Scimitar was heavily damaged, so Shinzon was trying to use it on the equally damaged Enterprise, but Data manages to blow up the Scimitar before it can be used.
