I haven't read any of those, but I'm liking what the writer on Birds is doin' on Bloodshot.

    Nononono... False dichotomy.

You don't actually have to pick one of two. You have dozens of publisgers to pick from. Istrongly suggest you find a couple of writers you enjoy and follow them, whether they happen to be writing for DC, Marvel, Image, IDW... at the time.

What carabas said. Allegiance to one publisher or another is a fools errand. Buy what you want to read, and don't limit yourself.

Here are some comics that I find enjoyable, regardless of publisher:

    Atomic Robo

    Amazing Spider-Man

    Usagi Yojimbo

    The Unwritten

    Daredevil

Iron Man (this is being relaunched with a new #1 this week, so it's a perfect time to jump on)

Captain America is also being relaunched with a new #1 very soon, as is the Hulk

There's no reason you need to choose one or the other. You wouldn't decide between novels published by Random House and Doubleday.

    Read what interests you.

I see no point in collecting things if you don't enjoy them. Research the titles that interest you on a surface level and go from there.

Also, remember there are a lot of comics worth collecting that aren't Marvel or DC.

People, Kis isn't a free thinker. Being told what to read is what he likes and what interests him. Just say Batman and move on.

No. Why would you think that? Have you ever actually read Judge Dredd?

I would recommend checking out Atomic Robo above all. That's neither Marvel nor DC, but I find it immenently more enjoyable than any current Big 2 title.

I don't know anybody who's read Atomic Robo who hasn't enjoyed it immensely.

Start collecting Marvel comics because you get more bang for your buck. The MU (Marvel Universe) is truly a shared universe and you'll never be short on reading material because there are so many leads to follow.

Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four are all franchises that you should consider immeadiately (or NOW). That's at least 24 books to choose from to get ya started.

    Happy reading.

Oh, and I genrally read about half the number of comics.

Find writers and characters you like. Read them no matter what company happens to publish them.
