Maybe it is Phil. Maybe his battle with Roderick leads to Nora being killed and to atone for her death, he becomes a hero. "With power comes great responsibility"

Maybe it will be Phil with Doc Ock's mind in his body? That could be interesting. A bit convoluted, but who knows (I suppose it's as plausible as Ock switching minds with Peter - something that I would hate....)

BTW, with the mention of 'other goblins' everyone's thinking Norman.

Wouldn't it be so Dan Slott to have Ned Leeds show up and kill Roddy and Phil?!

"Dying wish…" no one's mentioned Marla's wish to Jonah that he let go of his hatred of Spider-Man. Because although he's vacillated between loathing and gratitude towards Spidey he hasn't completely turned around. Could #700 finally show a complete, irreversible change of heart?

J Jonah Jameson is the Superior Spider-Man. That just might work.

I would like to apologize for my previous comment in this thread.
It was silly of me to assume that single mothers are heroes.
It was obvious that the original poster meant "above normal people."
And it was sillier of me to assume that single mothers are "above normal people."
    Very, very, very silly.
    WHAT was I thinking?!
Fortunately, this guy explained it to me PROPERLY...

I think John Jameson is a more likely and more interesting pick. But----I have to say-----Dan really has me confused as to where all this is heading; almost anything is possible!

I honestly have no idea if you're being sarcastic or not.

He's being sincere. He believes that Batman is a better hero than a single mother.

Making peace with Spider-Man is probably about as good for your health as marrying James Bond.

A good single mother is equal of Batman.
There's a bit of Spider-Man in all of us.

Has anything been confirmed about the new Spider-Man being a character already established in the universe or being someone completely brand new? I know he's said its been leading up to this since he first started writing the book but I'm not sure if that translates to an established character.

Yes, either Wacker or Slott said the new Spidey would be a character with "serious Spider-Man pedigree" so I guess it is someone we are well familiar with and not someone being dropped into the title for the first time.

As someone raised by a single mother, I appreciate the shout-out to the hard work they have to put up with. Add in all the crap she had to put up with from my brother and I, as well as other family members, and she should get a medal for not completely losing her mind. (But don't tell her I said that. )

I still predict the new Spider-Man will be Japanese and have a giant Spider-Man robot.
