Kickstarter is a brilliant idea, Eric Powell is using it to get funding for the Goon animated flick and has gotten tons of support. Seems self funding is the way to go these days, heck the fans are so crazy about it one guy is selling is back to raise money for it, no joke the link is http://youtu.be/PU1u6UDVOrg He may have been pretty drunk to propose that though.
