I don't think he was intended to be. Different times. Breakdance looks lame now, but it was a young and hype thing at some point. Maybe parkour one day seems like something stupid and Nightrunner becomes a joke character for the generations to come (bad comparison, but you get the point).

Comic fans always say why not give second string characters a chance? Why is it always the same characters getting books?

Then when it happens, they say it's weak, and won't work.
