There is merit to the questioning. I think the fact that Walking Dead seems to be also a finite story where characters don't exist in a vacum and every arc you see growth in the characters's life helps. I'm starting to wonder if the super-heroes shouldn't be more treated this way, as continuing growing saga. But it's hard to maintain the legimacy of the character(s) because there is so often a change of the guard as far as creators, editors, owners. American super-hero comics could use the European model of the same creators on a book for decades, that way it helps to keep with connection with readership, maintain fidelity.

Not attacking you for liking it, but im pretty sure it hasn't been a big deal since the 80s, and even then, a "big deal" is overselling.

I'm not reading anything in the walking dead that suggests it's a finite story. They are at issue 100 and have already started repeating storylines.

Well, we'll see if it ends or not but I don't see Walking Dead existing in ten years. More importantly though it's a story of the life of a certain group of characters, you see them screw up, you see them get killed, you see them evolve and so forth. While for super-heroes they always go back to square one, especially when there are new creators handling them, it's always a go back to basics. Wheras when it's the same creator it's more organic and he can take the character, make it go in various new territories and it's the same voice. And as a reader there's consistancies there for a book like Walking Dead. You can say "oh right, that is what happened here because of what he did last time". Wich you can trust when it's different voices handling a character.

Walking Dead its been said will last quite a long...long...long time. Because Kirkman has he plans to write it til Carl is a grown man from an interview he gave. Only 2+ years has passed in the book so far it seems.

Avengers comics aren't geared towards casual fans. They're made for hardcore fans who are willing to spend a good chunk of money every month, picking up several titles and hopefully buying into the big events as well.

Walking Dead fans can buy The Walking Dead.
