Which is best? I've only read Geoff Johns' Green Lantern stuff and I love that. How does he do with other DC characters?
Justice League Volume 1: Origin
Aquaman Volume 1: The Trench

Trench, Easy choice.
'If you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, its not because they enjoy solitude. It's because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them'
Get Trench right now. But definately also get Origin. Both comics are very big blockbuster action based, but Aquaman also makes Aquaman badass (Justice League does too, but only a little bit. The characters in JL are very 2 sided right now. But it's still where all the drama in the New 52 will take place, along with JLA, as the build-up to Trinity War.
They're both action-packed stories, but the action in Trench is in service of reinventing Aquaman and providing a lot of characterization along the way. The JL trade is a Michael Bay movie, just noise and explosions that mean nothing and accomplish less. And as an aside, I'd take Ivan Reis over Jim Lee any day of the week.
Be a fan of the creators, not the characters.
The Trench easily wins that comparison, but I'd recommend checking out the first 50 issues of JSA or his first run on The Flash if you want to read some good Johns comics. He's been on cruise control over the past few years, in my opinion, and while he's steady these days, his books reach a certain base level without really trying to push themselves into interesting territory. Not bad, per se, just blah...
I, Vampire Vol. 1 or Justice League Dark Vol. 1 would probably be better choices than more of Geoff Johns' painful story telling these days.![]()
Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Ditto, seconded and quoted for truth.
I love both books; I really do. But it's no contest. There's something epic and pulp comics-esque about Johns' Aquaman. Geoff really gets Arthur and Mera as a couple. The Others are easily the best addition to the Aquaman mythos in years. And the villains are seriously bad@$$.
Don't miss it.
