My wife and I went to a 70's tribute at the philharmonic and it got me to thinking about the diversity that came out of the 70's.
What cool characters can you think of that debuted in the 70's ?

Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, Professor X, Mar-Vell, Richard Rider- Bring Them Back!!!
Banshee was created in 1967. He was introduced in X-Men #28.
I agree with the rest of your list, though. And I'd add:
Betsy Braddock
Michael Morbius
Union Jack
Star-Lord
Valkyrie
Deathlok
Squadron Supreme
Man-Thing
Jack of Hearts
Ant Man II
Spider-Woman
Kamandi
The Huntress (Helena Wayne)
Steel the Indestructible Man
Shade the Changing Man
Two other favourites of mine, Falcon and Nighthawk, missed out by a few months, both debuting late in 1969.

Actually, if we're venturing outside Marvel and DC, I'd also add:
Judge Dredd
Ro-Busters
Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter
Strontium Dog
(all of the above from either 2000AD or its sister title, Star-Lord, obviously)
plus:
Luther Arkwright
Axel Pressbutton
E-Man
Many of my favorite characters were created in the 70's. Most of them, even. Several have already been mentioned, but here are three of my favorites:
Warlord
Jonah Hex
The Unknown Soldier (don't believe the lies about OOAW #168)

The interesting characters were often not the stars of the books. Various shades of red-haired women: Beverly Switzler, Nova Kane, Iris Jacobs, Red Sonja, Lilith, the Marigold twins, (Rose and) Thorn, Mariah (in Skartaris).
And other cast members: Martin Stein, Gregory Reed, Johnny Nevada, Steve Lombard, Captain Strong, Kirk Langstrom, Wildfire, Dawnstar, Abigail Arcane, Tara of Skartaris, Machiste, Shakira (Travis Morgan's "cat"), Golden Glider, the Bronze Tiger, Ben Boxer, Oberon, Shilo Norman, Vartox, Jason Bard, Lucius Fox, the heroes of Angor.
My God, I thought I was the only one who even remembered Steve Lombard!
But what about Steve Howard? Or Martha Roberts of Earth One?
Almost all the major characters created by the "Big Four"'-- Englehart, Gerber, McGregor and Moench-- appeared in the 1970s. Mantis, Doctor Bong, Killmonger and his entourage, Clive Reston--
And of course all the Marvel and DC monsters.

Etrigan !
Swamp Thing!
Thoth-Amon, in his Marvel comics incarnation. One of the rare major villains not to be quickly made irrelevant due to overexposure.
