Default Aang vs Korra: Book 2 vs Book 1

Aang (Air/Earth/Waterbending) versus Korra (Earth/Water/Firebending) in the middle of New York City.

Korra can have New Team Avatar backup (Bolin, Mako, Asami, Lin, Naga, Iroh, Tenzin) and Aang can have the Gaang (Katara, Sokka, Toph, Apa, Suki, Zuko).

Bloodbending is banned. Avatar State is shut off. No environmental solar/lunar boosts either.

    Which side would win?

I never did finish Legend of Korra, which is something I still need to remedy, so I'm not all sure what New Team is capable of.

That said, there is no way I'm not backing the team Toph is on.

Everyone in Korra has worse feats for the first half of the story to sell the non-bending ninja terrorists as more of a threat. They go back to normal after Amon assaults the Pro-Bending finals, but by then six episodes is too late to have time to equal the kind of feats team Aang gets in their three series worth of episodes.

There's a couple of impressive ones though, like Tenzin airbending a huge mech several stories into the air, and Iroh jr managing short distance flight.

In general, I don't think we really saw new team avatar dealing with some of the things that the Gaang could do in terms of scale and skill.

Toph stomps the ground, the entire ground under new team avatar goes flying up. I don't think we saw them repelling lightning either.

    Pretty much.

    Toph: "Nope!"

No one on the Gaang has lightning. Two of those listed for Korra's side do though, while we're talking about it.

Huh, I thought Zuko did for some reason.

we may want to wait for Book 2 of Korra, even with her brand new spoilers:
    Avatar State and Airbending
end of spoilers Still don't think they should be taking on Team Aang.

Strictly speaking, Avatar Mode Korra should outdo Avatar Mode Aang by a tiny margin due to the Avatar's basic nature.

I don't really think this is a fair comparison. While it's true that the New Team Avatar is several years older than the Gaang, the Gaang has thus far had significantly more experiences in terms of combat and fighting in a war by the end of Book 2: Earth than Korra's group has had by the end of Book 1: Air.

With Avatar Mode Shut Off, the big guns on Korra's team are Tenzin and Iroh. However they aren't enough to make up for the difference IMO. The Gaang takes this.

"That's right, and I am a high schooler who couldn't live alone even for a second... and is as cool as the devil himself."

No all he can do is re-direct lightning he never got around to firing it off. I don't doubt he eventually learned it, but we never saw it.

Did he ever shoot lightning in that Promise Comic? Is that even canon for Rumbles?

Should be in theory, given that it's a canon continuation.

Incidentally, Katara can surf through the air on a pillar of ice now.
