Default PREVIEW: Hellraiser: The Road Below #1

Kirsty Cotton has gone from a human resisting the forces of Hell, to the ruler of light in the darkest of places. Before her battle with former Pinhead Captain Elliott Spencer, she was called to New Orleans by a holder of the LeMarchand Device -- a woman trying to end a decades-long family feud by any means necessary... Rising star writer Brandon Seifert (WITCH DOCTOR, HELLRAISER ANNUAL) and red hot artist Ibraim Roberson (UNCANNY X-MEN) unite to tell the story of the first time Kirsty Cotton was called to earth as the new Pinhead! This in-continuity tale reveals Kirsty's first days in Hell, and how the road there is always paved with good intentions.

I don't like the direction the comics have taken. They've told us over and over again that these comics would wash the bad taste of the dtv movies out of our mouths but in some ways, I think they're worse. I don't know if it's Boom or Clive Barker himself that's behind it all, but lately there's been a lot of talk about the cenobites being cosmic cops who take bad people to hell to be punished for their crimes. A lot of the reason Hellraiser Inferno was such a controversial movie among fans is because that's how the cenobites were characterized. It was also most likely the main reason Barker hated it so much and Doug Bradley rates it as the worst in the series. Now it seems Barker is actually spearheading this change to the mythology where the cenobites go from being amoral explorers to crusaders against sin.
