Default I'm ready for Peter to come back? Who's with me...

So I'm kind of done with Bendis' whole experiment. The book just hasn't been as good. I like the idea and part of me likes the direction, but I loved the way Bendis wrote Ultimate Spider-Man.

I think a lot of this is the way Bendis writes these long drawn out stories. I feel like nothing has happened in the book and we've gotten a huge creation story.

Miles is appealing and I could see myself liking him. I really enjoyed him in the Spider-Men mini. But he just isn't Peter Parker. I think that is the big thing. Spider-Man is a character driven book, and that character is Peter Parker.

I gave it a shot. Heck I even went into it with a fairly positive attitude. Heck even now I'm not that upset about it, but I'm ready for USM to start hitting its stride again. Honestly, I think we just need to put Bagley back on the book.

That is why I'm worried about where Slott is going. I just can't imagine not having my Peter Parker fix each month. I think Slott should bring back Peter as ASM removes him- if that is what even happens in ASM.

Any thoughts? Sorry if there is a thread about this already. I didn't see one and I don't venture into the Ultimate boards as much as I used too.

Not me. Bagley can't draw. And Miles is much more interesting.

I like Miles story so I don't want Peter back. I feel like his story is over and there is no reason to bring him back.

Have you read the last issue of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man? 16.1?
It was very good and it was of the quality of the old Ultimate Spider-Man series + spoilers:
    Venom
    end of spoilers

I really enjoyed Peter in Ultimate Spider-Man. But his death meant something. And by bringing him back it will take that meaning away.

In fact it would take away any suspense for any character in the Ultimate U. If Bendis and Marvel can in fact keep the "Dead Means Dead" rule post DOSM I would like that. Because it would give us the suspense 616 can't.

Also by having his death stay intact you have a complete story with Ultimate Peter, a beginning, middle and end. Something most comic book super heroes don't have. And for a character as huge as Peter I think that means something.

Personally I don't miss Peter. His story is complete. Anything more would just degrade his legacy. I think you are in the minority saying that Ultimate Spiderman hasn't hit its stride. On the contrary it's hit its stride and beyond. I get that you are mad that ASM is not Peter but you should work on getting him back on that series instead of taking it out on Ultimate Spiderman. There is a devoted fan base now for Miles and just because you think that Peter should come back what then will happen to the people that like Miles. You are thinking that everyone loves Peter and that everyone has the same opinion as you on Miles. That isn't the case times change people move on. Also putting Bagley on Ultimate Spidey is a bad idea. Compared to Marquez and Pachelli he seems medicore now.

I loved the Bendis / Bagley USM era, and that story is over. Also you can't bring back Peter Parker in the Ultimate verse and keep the regular kid in highschool story going considering how he died.

I would actually love to see Bagley return, even just for an annual to see his take on Miles.

But Peter is dead, his story is complete. The fans need to move on. Miles provides Bendis an opportunity to tell fantastic Spider-man stories and take them in a new direction rather than rehashing what Peter has done - and Peter has left a MASSIVE legacy, Miles will be dealing with that for years.

Where they SHOULD keep Peter is in the 616 universe, which is why I'm concerned about Superior Spider-man, but that's another thread.

Peter's only been in the ground a couple months! He deserves more time with his Uncle.

Ultimate Peter Parker is one of my all time favorite comic book characters, but I want him to stay dead and I want Miles to stay. As much as I love Peter, his story is complete. His death was tragic, but was a good end for the character. It was powerful, emotional, and moving. I don't want this undone. I really like Miles' story. It really adds to the idea of Spider-man as an "everyman" character. Lots of people can identify with Miles, just as they could identify with Peter. It's great stuff.

Anyone who doesn't like Miles Morales is a racist.

If he came back, I think he would have to come back as something other than spider-man.

That said, as I posted in another thread, I have not read any of Miles and can't comment on his tenure as the webslinger. I do think is kinda awful that he has all of peter's powers and then more, but thats not an indictment of teh character, just personal preference.

Can anyone come up with a reason why they are always killing off good characters in the Ultimate U? So far we've lost all the Asgardians bar Thor, Utimate Peter Parker and Ultimatum virtually wiped out most of the X Men, leaving a predominantly teen cast.It makes it hard to feel any affection for the characters in case they end up dead!

Which is a pity because I liked Ultimate Dazzler, Ultimate Loki, Ultimate Wasp, Ultimate Wolverine and Nightcrawler among others!

I would really like to see a few characters come back, mostly Wolverine but Peter is in that group as well. As for UCSM hitting it's stride I don't think it's really Miles that is the issue, I just think Bendis has been writing this book for so long that he has run into a bit of a funk. He clearly still can do it, just read the 16.1 issue that came out yesterday, it was one of my favorite issues starring Miles to date. For the most part though I feel like Bendis hands everything to Miles on a silver platter and that makes the stories incredibley contrived in boring to me.

Others may argue that Miles has had to work for what he has achieved but I really don't see it that way and I think a lot of readers would agree with me. I definitely want Miles to stick around forever, but bringing back Peter would certainly increase my enjoyment of the UU.

Ultimate Wolverine is coming back, sort of!

    His story is over.

If that is how Bendis feels, then I'm going to respect the creator's wishes on that.

This isn't an experiment. Peter is dead. And so far in the 10-12 years the Ultimate Universe has been around, dead means dead. Peter's story is over.

    Now, in the 616 universe . . .
