Wow, where were their fact checkers? I have not heard anything anywhere about this being animated. Where did they get that notion?

I would love GOTG by Lucasfilm![]()
I wonder what the whole Lucasfilm acquisition means for Guardians of the Galaxy? Seemed like this was going to be Disney's answer to Star Wars with a comic book/Marvel twist...doesn't seem like much of a point in making any more after the first now that they own Star Wars.
Both are space opera, but the GotG characters have a more diverse sort of power set than Star Wars players, and the GotG's challenges tend to be on a larger scale - intersecting universes, dimensional rifts and the like.
Personally, I'm not that excited about the thought of a news Star Wars movie, but would be up for a GotG trilogy - provided the first one doesn't suck, that is.
Now that we've gotten new Star Wars movies confirmed I don't think people will be as excited for Guardians of the Galaxy

"No weapon formed against them could prosper."
I don't see why it would be an either/or proposition. A major reason they bought Marvel was so they could leverage their catalog of characters to create profitable franchises in other media and to sell merchandise. If the first GoTX is successful there's no question they'll make more, Star Wars or no Star Wars.
I have a feeling it would be more successful as an animated movie personally.
Money doesn't grow on trees and these movies are all going to cost a lot of money. They may not see a reason to make non Star Wars space operas now that they own Star Wars. It made sense trying and make Guardians of the Galaxy into something before, especially since Marvel doesn't own all there movie properties & GotG filled a niche Disney didn't have covered. Now that they own Star Wars and are going to be putting them out ever few years it just seems a bit pointless.
You people do realize that Disney just owns the properties now, right? They aren't actually dictating what movies are being made. Lucasfilm is still in charge of Star Wars and Marvel Studios still runs those movies. Completely seperate entities.
Better realization, you guys do realize that major mergers/buyouts like Disney buying Lucasfilms don't happen overnight, right? GOTG was only confirmed back in July. There's no way the Lucasfilm purchase wasn't already in talks by then. Especially given that the second Lucas announced he was retiring from movie-making back in February, every Hollywood studio started sniffing around to see the chances of getting their hands on Star Wars, if they weren't already.
Disney would never have greenlit GOTG in the first place if they thought having the Star Wars franchise would be a conflict of interest or a redundancy for it, not when they were already actively trying to get their hands on Star Wars.
(Not to mention, GOTG comes out summer of 2014. The new Star Wars comes out in 2015. Nobody who'd be interested in seeing GOTG is really going to think 'nah, I don't really need to see it, there's a new Star Wars coming out a year from now.')
