My three picks were War Games/War Crimes could of be so much better. One Year Later was not the big return Batman deserved after being away for a year. And finally Murder/Fugitive was not as big as dc claimed it would be but maybe it is just me.

War Games/War Crimes. By far the worst Batman event/story I've ever read. Batman as an even bigger jerk than usual during WG didn't help nor Steph's torture and death, either.

I think what a lot of this points to is not just that various writers did lousy work, but also that DC's editors often dropped the ball, big time. For instance, someone in editorial decided that Leslie Thompkins should allow Stephanie Brown to die, just to prove a point to Batman. What an unbelievable lack of judgment that shows.

People have been dumping on Jim Shooter for thirty years now for being a control freak during his days as Marvel Editor in Chief, but I think that kind of strict managerial oversight might be exactly what superhero comics need--in order to stop boneheaded decisions being made by editors who apparently have no idea what a good story is, and don't care if they have to arbitrarily change a character's personality in order to achieve whatever silly "event" they have in mind to boost sales.

But as to Batman Inc. itself, the story is too big & too international. I would find it more believable if one of the DCU official spy groups horned into the sitch with Leviathan. Batman in this book is FAR too much a "bat-god" instead of the local vigilante he's supposed to be. Just a ridiculous tale that will get relegated into an eventually forgotten dustbin by future readers, IMO.
Completely agreed. Morrison's always been far too fond of silver age silliness and outlandish levels of intertwined continuity.

Which I have always thought was ridiculous, because you can't argue with the results: one of the most-praised, creatively-fertile periods in Marvel's entire history, second only to Stan's tenure.

I have to give DC a lot of credit for sticking it out and letting him do what he set out to do. And I have every issue. But don't ask me what it's about or what happened.
I think it's worth extra credit because of Neal Adams role in the current (is it still going?) court proceedings.

    Two things.

    1. I notice there are no pre-COIE choices. Mainly I presume because there were very few multi-issue Batman stories back then.

    2. I voted other - for Emperor Joker from 2000. What should have been a Superman story became about how the Joker is obsessed with Batman. There was a cool moment in amongst all the meh, where the memory of every person the Joker killed is put in Bruce's brain by the Joker and he snaps. Supes tries to get him to fight back but the Spectre says the only way he can be healed is if someone takes the memories from him, which Superman does. Looking back, I see the quality of the characterisation compared to the current state of things. It's sad that it didn't last much longer.

    Fun is evil.

    Also evil: international Batman.

They've been screwing up Batman since forever.

I think the problem with your logic is that it ISNT Batman. It is Batwoman.

Frankly, he can bring in as much stuff from the past as he wants. It's perfectly fine and people love it. I'm just not into it because it brings about a weird and inconsistant tone to the whole run and I have no attachment to any of the silver age material or its weird continuity.

Hey, can someone tell me why my profile picture isn't showing up? It's 100X100 and less than 64 kb, and it shows on my profile page, but not in my posts.
