I pre-ordered Halloween Eve when I saw it in Previews.

When it arrived, I thought the artwork was absolutely stunning. Just beautiful. Then while flipping through it when waiting in line, I read some dialogue here and there that really struck me as making Eve strangely unlikable. Then I read 'retard' used as a pejorative. Guh-wuh? Flip through further to find out if the use is anchored in some plot-specific way. Realize it isn't, and was just thrown in as thoughtlessly as a 12 year old on a playground. Quietly put book back on shelf.

Diversity and inclusiveness only goes so far, apparently.

I haven't read the book myself, just saw a preview, and of course if it's not to your taste it's not your thing. But a character doesn't need to be likable and say PC things, a character being portrayed like that could be the point of it.

I actually wrote a line saying 'of course, being unlikable can be the point of a character', but then deleted it because I thought it was merely stating the obvious. Apparently I obviously should have went ahead and stated the obvious.

At no point did I say I wanted any characters to 'say PC things' (PC itself being a conservative insult in this day and age). But it's interesting how restraining one's self from deliberately insulting a specific group of people is now considered an extra effort. The irony over expecting that from a demographic who themselves endure such things?

I wouldn't think I'd have to point that out. But it's the internet, so maybe I do.

That doesn't make much sense, since people such as say very liberal stand up comedians like to defend entertainment not having to be PC all the time. But that's another can of worms.

And ha, well you respond to me saying it could be in character by essentially insulting me and saying "oh that's so obvious, this is the internet". A character said something that offended you, that's okay. And again, you're treating the character like they're the author. The character saying retard doesn't mean the author is supporting saying retard. If you respond further, please, try not to insult anyone (me for example), discuss the art/entertainment at hand.

Your first sentence is utterly incomprehensible. As such, I cannot reply to it. New Left rhetoric and imposed orthodoxy are not the same thing.

If stating my opinions and observations are 'insulting you', then I don't know what else to say. Perhaps I am not articulating myself well enough, or you are not fully grasping the concept. Either way, you're in for a great deal more personal distress, since I have no desire to suppress my thoughts because you personally might find them disagreeable. If you think I'm targeting you with 'insults', you are in error. If you think that pointing that out is somehow 'insulting' you, you're still in error.

I *was* discussing the art. Since you seem to insist on making it all about you, I decline.

    Enjoy your comic.

If you don't understand how your post with statements such as "Apparently I obviously should have went ahead and stated the obvious." and "I wouldn't think I'd have to point that out. But it's the internet, so maybe I do." are rude and insulting... what can I tell you. For a person who wants a comic not to include words that could offend, you certainly don't seem to care if your words offend.

As mentioned I haven't read this comic, so not sure what "enjoy your comic" means... I know you're a new poster, just try to be more civil. People disagree on opinions, that's normal, but ideally you can understand how that's not all your posts convey.

You actually didn't even mention the comic in your most recent post, or even the issue we were talking about. A character said a word you didn't like, and you put it back on the shelf. If you want to discuss that particular issue, then that would make sense. What you're doing instead... a bit confrontational and off-topic.
