Mignola drawing Hellboy is the only Hellboy I'm interested in! Looking forward to this! It blows me away that an astounding artist like Mignola would have confidence issues!
READ HYPERACTIVE COMICS ON THE DUCK!!
Mignola's never been all that confident from what I can get from interviews, and aside from cover duties (trades, single issues, etc) he'd not done Hellboy comics for a couple of years.
As an aside, I find this quote interesting:
That might be true now Hellboy is in Hell, but for early B.P.R.D. and a number of the upcoming series, it's still firmly a case of to get the full picture, you need to read pretty much everything. B.P.R.D.'s earlier stories are very strongly tied to Hellboy, and without Hellboy those stories couldn't have happened as they did. So to really get an understanding of what's going on, Hellboy and B.P.R.D. must be read, and then on a deeper level the non-core B.P.R.D. titles (1946/1947) tie into events that are still going on, some of the spin-offs like Abe Sapien and Lobster Johnson expand on or lead from/into other situations."Hellboy in Hell" allows Mignola to write and draw the Hellboy universe's version of Hell.
As far as whether "Hellboy" and "B.P.R.D." will affect each other, Mignola said he doesn't want to write a book where you have to read one to understand what's happening in the other.
Not that I'm complaining, but Hellboy and B.P.R.D. are pretty inseparable, at least as far as B.P.R.D. is concerned. I don't think you need to read B.P.R.D. to get Hellboy, though at times (particularly during Fegredo's tenure) B.P.R.D. events are referenced.
But hey, Baltimore's pretty separate, as far as I'm aware. That's a good comic.
