Emma Rios is like my favorite new artist.
I like comic books.
Another Mar-Vell fakeout. Greeeeaaat.
Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, Professor X, Mar-Vell, Richard Rider- Bring Them Back!!!
Dropped the book after issue three. I love DeConnick's take on the character, but the story is a severe turnoff. Thank God McGuiness is gone off covers.
Seems like a very boring story. I don't want to read about Carol in the past being inspired by her female heroes. I wanted this book to do well, because I thought Marvel needed a leading female character, and I think Carol's new costume and giving her the Captain Marvel name was very cool. But not feeling this story at all.
I usually really like DeConnick's work, but I have to agree that this story probably wasn't the best to lead with in a new series. Carol is one of my favorite characters (though I am torn on the new name and my wife hates it) and I'm very glad to see her in her own book again, but I fear this book may get the can before we can get into better arcs.
I too was hoping for a more interesting start to this book.
I am sticking with it for now, because I like the character, but this isn't really doing it for me right now and is in danger of being dropped if it doesn't get more interesting to read.
Not sure why they felt compelled to provide "a hint of what's in store" for an issue that's already out.
All of these things took place in #5, which came out two days ago. Seriously. Some things to come:
1.Helen Cobb
2.Brass Knuckles
3.Helen Cobb vs. Car
4.Carol Danvers & Helen Cobb: Thieves
5.Kree
I will be buying all the issues with Monica in it. I love DeConnick for this!
I have hope that things will pick up after this arc wraps up. From solicits we know the next arc is a two issue one and then we start something new.
I am concerned that it looks like they are rotating staff on the book though, with a new editor and we have another artist for issue 9. Does anyone know if that is just a fill-in for Soy or is he off the book?

I want to like this book but this starting arc just isn't doing it for me. :(
Current Pulls:
Iron Man, Aquaman, Avengers, Batman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, East of West, Journey into Mystery, New Avengers, Talon
I too will be glad when the current arc is over. It's not horrible, but it's not the most thrilling either. I hope the book can survive. DeConnick said in an interview something to the effect that she wished she hadn't started with a 6 issue arc. Apparently, she wasn't aware that she could chance the structure, not really knowing that the 6 issue arc for trade is finally dying (thank goodness.)
I think with new series like this they need to take the approach Scarlet Spider did with starting off with a lot of one and dones with a couple two parters that build up to lead up to longer stories. I think that would make a new series easier to get into if you don't have to feel that if you missed the first few issues you wouldn't be able to follow the current story in the issue that just came out, plus not having to wait long for the next good jumping on point. But that's just my two cents.
Either way it looks like DeConnick has learned her lesson and hopefully we'll see the shorter story arcs so we don't another one that drags like this one has. I guess we should be glad that for double shipping though as I can't imagine how trying it would be if we had to actually wait six months for this to actually wrap up.

Maybe I'm wrong but it looks like we're in the, "putting the pieces in play" stage of the book, which was going to happen sooner or later. Am I enjoying this current arc so far? Not really (I miss Soy's art), but I'll just remain patient and continue buying the book, in hopes that this will pay off in the next few arcs.
Still, I'm still hoping that DeConnick will establish Carol as a member of S.W.O.R.D......with maybe some future Banshee Squad members as agents?
