By the way, have you heard of the Straight to Hell forum? It's devoted to Hellblazer and has been going on for more than a decade. Most of the members think the current series stinks. My personally favourite thread:
The State of Hellblazer
And their thread about issue #296 is hilarious in its negativism.
This doesn't prove anything, but I find fascinating the dissonance of opinion between the CBR members, who think Hellblazer is the greatest comic book of the moment, and the STH members, who think Milligan put the final nail on the coffin.
All that that really proves is that opinions are very individual things and that people who aren't happy about something tend to be much more vocal about it than those who are. I'm a member of numerous Doctor Who forums. On several of them. the negative comments from those fans who absolutely detest the current show and are continually comparing it unfavourably to its 1970s incarnation constantly outweigh the positive comments from those who like it. But that doesn't stop 8 million people in the UK from watching it regularly.
EVERY Fandom is like that. Going through a Batman forum will make you think that The Dark Knight got maybe mixed reviews if it's a good day, a Trekker forum will tell you JJ Abrahms' Star Trek is the worst thing ever, James Bond forum that Casino Royale was maybe ok and Doctor Who forums you'll get two sides: People who bitch that the New Series shouldn't exist (or be completely different) and people who think that Doctor Who died ended when Tenth regenerated. Go to ThatGuyWithTheGlasses and see how new reviews suck and the old, terribly done (from a technical standpoint) reviews are the best.
Things are ALWAYS better before than what they are now. Five years later they would be missing Milligan and saying that this new guy (whoever he would had been) sucks.
...And does Mr. Goddanm Batman says so much as ''Thanks''? OF COURSE not. That'd hardly be GRIM AND GRITTY, would it?
-DKU's Jim Gordon.
I can understand why "real" Hellblazer fans would hate it now! I myself, never liked Hellblazer until Milligan with Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Landini. I even love the coloring.

Milligan's constantine is a lot more brutal than some of the previous versions. I've liked the stuff from Epiphany forward, the wedding and so on.
What annoys a lot is that he settled down (eyes spider man and superman fans) instead of the crazy loner beating all odds I guess.
Milligan painted him in a corner and I wonder how Hellblazer would continue after he would have left.
Every Hellblazer writer sort of left a clean slate for the following writer.
I enjoyed somewhat the part of Milligans run i read and but im many issues after it now.
The Walking Dead,Fatale,Near Death,Storm Dogs,Happy,BPRD,XO-Manowar
American Vampire,Animal Man,Swamp Thing
