On the first point and the second, combine those, you get most of them to come to you, you still see zombie heads getting stabbed, and then you go in and look for leftovers instead of going in and fighting all of them.
So your characters aren't stupid to make the show more exciting (god knows the second season wasn't exciting and didn't hurt the show).

it'd also be smart to gear up in the riot gear, especially the shields, and go through the hallways like Spartans in a phalanx. there's a lot they could do 'instead.'

I like the show this season. it's entertaining, things actually happen. I try not to nitpick the woulda coulda. factor in exhaustion, malnutrition as reasons they aren't making the best decisions.

You want to clear a cell block out? Stand outside it and yell so the zombies come, lead them to the fence, stab them in the head.
Zombies are slow, stupid, easily herded, they don't learn or adapt, they could literaly kill every zombie in the prison in complete safety.
No, they really couldn't. Aside from what GDB said about luring them outside no being that simple or easy, they also run the risk of any noise they make that's loud enough to be heard by the walkers inside a heavily fortified prison whose entrance is located a good 100 yards from the fence would almost certainly draw walkers located on the outside of the fence, where Rick and Co. would be waiting to "stab zombie heads." Then what? They'd be boxed in on both sides by walkers and the fence, badly outnumbered.

Well, if they have more than 8, then they've still got Rick's group beat. Plus, with some of the heavy weapons the Governor appears to have (including the ones he took off the guardsmen), precision might not be much of an issue.

How does walking into the prison and yelling draw zombies from the outside?
And does the fence on the other side not protect them?

They are zombies, if you yell, they come.
It's 2 fences, each cellblock also has a gate in front of it.
They close the gate to the cellblock and let them walk to them, they get in between the two fences and go to work.
They actively walk past the zombies who are hanging on the fence several times this season.

Not enough ammo, they also fire guns way to often.

That's not what you originally said. You said they should yell to draw the zombies to the fence, and stab them from the other side. That would require them actually being on the other side of the fence, not in the prison, where the cellblocks are.

As long as there are few enough walkers on either side of the fences that they aren't pinned between them. But if they end up with a huge pack on both sides of them, there's only so much hacking they can do through a fence before weight of numbers might break through. And since they don't actually know how many walkers are in the prison (outside their cell block), it would be a blind gamble to draw them all out hoping they can kill them all before they're overrun.

The gates to the cellblocks are inside the prison. The fence is on the outside of the prison. It they close the gate to the cellblock inside the prison, how are the walkers going to get to the fence on the outside? They'll be trapped in the cellblock. Unless you're suggesting that they call the walkers to cellblock gate and then open and try to make a run for the fence. Because that's just crazy. To say nothing of the fact that they have no idea how many walkers are in the prison. We've seen many times that a critical mass of them moving forward in a pack can knock down a fence, door, or plate glass window. There are only a handful of people in Rick's group. What happens if the mass group of walkers breaks through the fence (or the chains they put on the gates) then what?

No they haven't. They've actively driven by them on/in motored vehicles that move to fast for them to catch. And even then they first have someone on the inside of the gate create a distraction that draws them away from the gate. It's not like they just leisurely walked by them with no danger.

Though you gotta wonder why they don't do a regular sweep of the gates, stabbing the walkers who just lean there like human sized bullseyes. Sure, the gate will hold, but more always seem to come...

So duct tape can keep a zombie away? Is there anything it isn't good for?

Also, how does this group keep stumbling over people who never heard of the zombies? Yeesh, weak crutch there.

Clearly, that guy was nuts...he was living in a house with a exposed dead animal in it.
