At least, in Scarlet Spider, they use heroes and villains we don't see too often.
The Rangers and now the Lobo Brothers! Far better than boring Wolverine or Octopus!

Edit: just remembered that one of the Lobo was dead. So maybe it's just random werewolves.

Superior Spider Man sounds SOOOO unappealing to me- pass. But I'm wondering why the editors love to rile up the Spidey/MJ fans like this.I also think I'm gonna pass on "Morbius", if no monsters will be showing up. On the panel art, the Hand with the cards- wonder what that's all about?

The Hand with the cards is a cover for Daredevil: End of Days.

I think dr. octopus, in his last moments, will succeed in swapping minds with peter parker. Just like in that Skeleton Key movie with Kate Hudson. For me Superior Spider man is Otto Octavius.

You know, I'd actually buy the hell out of that for a bit. A finite story with Peter eventually getting his body back, but in the mean time Otto having to act like he is Parker.

It'd be like when Erik Masterson was trying to convince everyone he was just Thor with a beard.

I'm beginning to think this is the case. I also suspect that this is being planned as a finite story arc. Probably a year or so long, but with an end in sight(a few of the Marvel Now titles seem like finite concepts that aren't meant to run indefinitely; Avengers Arena, the time-traveling original five X-Men, Captain America trapped in 'Dimension Z')

My theory; Doctor Octopus manages to body-swap with Peter at the moment of his death and takes over as the new Spider-Man. His long-term goal; having 'killed' Spider-Man he will now utterly destroy him by becoming what he feels is a "superior" Spider-Man, with the ultimate goal of destroying the reputations of both Spider-Man and Peter Parker(something tells me that it's gonna suck to be MJ Watson before this is over). Meanwhile Peter Parker's soul, detached from a physical body, is stuck on Earth, only able to communicate with Julia Carpenter and maybe Dr. Strange(I kind of like it when those two hook up). By the end of the arc, Peter's soul confronts Ock's inside his own body and after a protracted flashback-laden bout, he gets his body back. But the damage has been done; Mayor Jameson, the NYPD and the Avengers are convinced that Spider-Man is a menace, Peter is fired from Horizon Labs, none of Peter's friends or family will even speak to him, including MJ and Aunt May(MJ knows the truth but is so traumatized by what Ock did to her while possessing Spider-Man that she can't bear to be around Peter anymore), and Peter has to start over from square one to rebuild his rep, as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Doc Ock is gone, but his final victory remains; Spider-Man is truly alone and the world is against him.

Yes, by all means, 'piss us off' .. we love that... (said the 60% of readers that never came back to the series after Peter made a deal with the devil...)

The Doc Ock mind-swap has got to be one of the DUMBEST fan-fic ideas I've heard yet. But since you, I, and everyone else knows Peter Benjamin Parker will still be Spider-Man in January, it's more plausible than "NEW YORK CITY IS DESTROYED" or "IT'S KAINE DESPITE HIM STILL HAVING HIS OWN BOOK/CAST/VILLAINS/STORIES/etc"

I guess we'll see soon enough.

That is a very interesting prediction, and I do hope it comes to fruition. I really do. But ever since I was made aware that Ryan Stegman was on the book, I could not shake off the nagging thought that this "superior" Spider-Man might, in fact, be Kaine. The following quote seems to validate this thought: Asked whether the Superior Spider-Man is someone we've seen before, possibly a reformed villain, Slott said only, "Our first arc is called 'Hero or Menace.'" I sure hope I am wrong.

Same here. I remember the last time Peter was replaced by a clone who had been using the name "Scarlet Spider." I was 9 years old and didn't read comics again for 10 years. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Slott, Wacker, et. al. are just trying to get everyone riled up and create buzz. I like Kaine as Scarlet Spider in his own city, and hope it stays that way for the foreseeable future.
I had a letter printed once in Amazing Spider-Man #604!

Before Marvel NOW!, my pull list was 14 Marvel books. Now, it's more like 5 Marvel, 7 DC, and a few indies.

This is the biggest tip-off... None of those series have premises that can sustain an on going series.

This is the best theory to date. I can see this happening.

The fans are frothing at the mouth, Slott is begging everyone to give Superior #1 a chance. So, here's what I think Marvel is thinking:

    1. Get the fans furious that Peter isn't going to be Spider-Man in the new series.
    2. Superior #1 comes out, it's Ock in Peter's body, but it's apparent that it's not going to be forever.
    3. Marvel begins to tease, "Peter will be back as Spidey, ONE DAY..."
    4. The day grows near, and they hype the shit out of Peter Parking returning as Spider-Man.
    5. Peter returns as Spidey, either back to ASM, or in SSM, but now he really IS the Superior Spider-Man.

It's all about working us into a tizzy, and upping book sales. They're going to be methodical about how they release information. Look at how the unmasking went. It was a HUGE press event, and then it didn't matter within a year, because of the events of OMD.

This is like Ben Reilly taking over as Spider-Man, but they're controlling the whole thing, instead of relenting to fan outrage. This is all planned, and we're buying every minute of it.

I don't give a fuck about the sales, and frankly you shouldn't either. I just want good Spider-Man stories. Doing a big status quo change just to enrage people, with the promise of, "Don't worry, we'll reverse this in about a year for another sales boost" doesn't exactly feel me with excitement.

Even if Otto takes over Peter's body, what would happen to Peter's consciousness? Would he be stuck in Otto's dying body, or will he still be in his own body, but not in control?

I'm disappointed that there were no plans to follow up on Spider-Men. The fact that Ultimate Comics Spider-Man apparently ignored in made me sad, but I would have liked it to really mean something by affecting 616 in a larger scale, although Mysterio's current status could still be dealt with.

Interesting. This may very well be the plausible reasoning I was looking for! You certainly seem to have faith on this new title. Might I suggest that your avatar may perhaps be too obvious?
