The Goon Movie Kickstarter!

I don't know what the policy is on the boards for advertising Kickstarter projects, so if it's not allowed let me know!

I've been waiting for years for this movie, and since the first time I saw Kickstarter I was wondering why didn't Eric Powell made one for this!
Now we have it, and I couldn't be more excited about it!

400.000$ goal, 29 days left. I think it's pretty safe to say this will easily be done.

Hmmm, I wouldn't call it awesome, but I am a big fan. Almost all the comics (individual issues + TPBs + HCs) plus figures & statues, some signed prints, oh yeah, and oddball things like the Jones Soda Co. Goon soft drinks and other collectibles. I also like to give the TPBs as gifts. If I had the $ I would certainly support the film getting made in a big way.

yeah, I've actually given some of the TPB's as gifts, it's one of my favorite series (although I only own the TPB's, the Chinatown HC and one print)!
you'll have to share some pics when you find the time! Maybe that way people will get excited for the movie!

Great to see that over 4,000 people have made pledges so far! They have quite the uphill battle for the last 5 days, so I'm hoping they try to get the word out a little more. The new print incentive got me to bump up my pledge amount. I love the sheer fun of The Goon and would love to see the brand expand.

I don't like their chances of reaching $400,000, which is a real shame. Animation isn't just for children and families. It's an medium, not a genre, and it'd be great if Western audiences finally realised that.

I was watching it last night. In 50 minutes it went up over $6000. It was an amazing thing to behold.

Contrary to most latest comic-related movies this is one I definitely wanna see at theaters, especially in non-3D, yet with popcorn or be it chickenwings and sugarloaded beverages.

Finally some culture.

Much agreed, although in all this it seems the audience-caterers (in this case "Hollywood") will be more of a factor than any audiences realistically, just as how Eric Powell or the people in the clips are noting this to be so.

Because it isn't necessarily correct that this movie or a movie like this wouldn't sell, not even should any Hollywood tycoon be feeling sure of such.

But technically Hollywood and their shareholder communities will be in charge of their own money to invest, which apparently leads to the situation that very corporate platforms such as Hollywood or Disney both as Marvel / DC / Warner will not easily be inclined to be taking anything on, outside of but the "normallest" or be it most safe if not generic stuff.

Since apparently any comic-related entertainment has to pan out as similar to Spider-Man or Batman or the Avengers (as how they'd be since the 40s or 50s or 60s), or either Twilight or Harry Potter - and hardly anything different.
Hellboy would be a leap in the dark. Kick-Ass would be a leap in the dark.
Spielberg's Hergé's Tin-Tin or any imported Ghibli flick would be like an arthouse film! Like some freeform Scandinavian feminist humanist rights lady or minority spokesperson-attendant reciting Fifty Shades of Grey in black-and-white, unshavenly, to innocent schoolchildren, in Finnish, with no subtitles. Because all arthouse films are only exactly like that.
Since they'd be 'suave' or potentially 'cooty' and therefor suspect. Like taco's.
For 'em there wouldn't be Oscars or Tony's or Grammies, or only weird awards like "Golden Bärs" or "> something French < d'Or" and who would wanna win those?

I'm picturing Eric Powell already, mingling at Cannes, on yachts with ladies in open-back gowns and grown men with tassled loafers and golden palm trees, discussing stuff like fruits-de-mer or hors d'oeuvres. Very destinguished-like I must say.
