I was actually a bit surprised they cancelled Secret Circle this season. I thought it did okay in the ratings. Hopefully Originals, if it gets picked up, will be able to do better. I imagine it'll potentially draw a slightly different audience since it falls a bit outside of that teen drama genre.

IIRC Secret Circle was the 2nd highest rated show of the season it aired. The only thing was apparently it was expensive so..it got canned while Nikita got to stick around.

I would think Originals might be kind of expensive too, if they're going to do a lot of period specific flashbacks. Hopefully that won't be a problem for them too.

Expenses could be one of the reasons why I don't see The Originals lasting long.

It doesn't appear to have been a problem for Diaries, which has a lot of period flashbacks itself. Plus, at least initially, the cast of Originals will be less expensive than what they're likely currently paying the Diaries cast.

Hopefully it won't be a problem for Originals either. Like I said earlier, I thought Secret Circle would be able to stick around. But that didn't seem to be the case.

I do wonder if Originals will be somewhat like that old Highlander show back in the day. With flashbacks being essentially an every episode occurance (unlike VD where it's only occasional). Because I do think exploring the originals past would be one of the more interesting aspects of the show. Stuff like seeing Klaus REAL dad and seeing the original Petrova, would be pretty cool.

It made sense. It really was a nice clean sollution to multiple problems occuring at once.

Ya never know though. I think they're sort of implying that Silas can return the dead. So we still might end up seeing a few familiar faces by the end of this season (and possibly in the Originals tv show).

With all this talk about Silas it sounded like he could have been one heck of an antagonist for The Originals. For an Original to be scared of him he has to be a big deal.

At least we still have Elijah. Whom I've considered the coolest of The Originals anyway so if he makes it to the spin-off show then I couldn't be happier.

Yeah, I assume he's gotta be a pretty big bad if the good guys sort of have 2 originals on their side. He's gotta be bigger and badder than Klaus at least.

He sounds like an immortal, like a vampire. But he seemingly has magic too. So maybe that makes him some sort of witch/vamp hybrid.

His absence from the show makes me wonder if he will be on the spinoff.

So was anyone shocked when inviting Kole into their house bit Elena and Jeremy in the ass? That was just dumb, even by their standards, even given that it worked out. Of course, they screwed up by not then dusting Klaus. Bonnie clearly had the power to keep him down, if only momentarily. But with the white oak stake, a moment was all they needed. Obviously, they had to keep him alive for the spinoff, but they could have set it up a way that didn't make the show's principles look like dopes for not even trying.

Isn't the actor that plays him supposed to be on some sort of Canadian medical drama or something?

In either event, I did think they did a pretty desent job of setting Klaus up for the spin off.

Kol mentions New Orleans, and Damon I think plants the seed for Klaus being a different sort of bad guy. A bad guy with actual purpose.

Killing Klaus isn't an option if he sired Damon, Stefan (and everyone else's) line. Elijah and Rebekah denied it was them, and it's obviously not Kol. So it had to be him.
