Default NYCC EXCLUSIVE: Ethan Van Sciver Joins "Batman: The Dark Knight"

Ehhh I think this is really underwhelming. Batman is so overloaded with artistic talent and just creative talent in general...there are so many other DC books where EVS could give a real creative and sales boost. I guess they want to soften the blow of losing Finch and maintain sales on this one, which I suppose makes business sense as this book (somehow) usually sells in the top 10, or right about there.

Mad Hatter? Sweet! Out of curiousity, when was the last time we had a good Mad Hatter story?

There was a great Mad Hatter story in the Joker's Asylum run, by Landry Walker and I think Keith Giffen?

Anyway, I agree with Sombrero; pretty much all of Batman's books are absurdly well stacked. That's not something to hate, but certainly I think it gives less opportunity for design and visual innovation, which is where I think EVS shines brightest.

Still, I can't fault DC for putting their biggest stars on their biggest characters, and I'm sure this will pay off for them. The Bat-lineup is absurdly well put together at this point. Impressive.

DC certainly does'nt want to lose any of the sales that The Dark Knight is receiving.

    Business are business I suppose.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.

I was going to drop this book after the current arc was over... Now excited with these news, I'm in! Damn you DC!

Good news. I'm glad that this title will have good artist on board

There's also the fact that EVS said Batman was his #1 choice. With him being a "draw" artist why wouldn't they give him a title he wants, especially with the book having an opening? The title may not have needed him to maintain sales, but keeping your employees happy goes along way to keeping them on board - especially in this climate of big name creators jumping ship to do indie work...

Hey Ethan. Where are those new Cyber-Frog issues you promised everybody?

This is awesome. I seem to recall that there was going to be a Mad Hatter arc that would incorporate White Rabbit as well. I hope this is going to wrap up that part.

Just keep him away from story. EVS needs to be on a horror book because he was sooo out of place on Flash. He just draws things creepy looking so Batman works for him. But I have to wonder how many issues he'll be able to do
