I really didn't like Legend of Korra. I didn't like the 1920's steampunk feel, the story really dragged through the first 2 chapters (esp that forever lasting bender competition), and most of the characters were too one-dimensional. Nice animation tho.

I'm sorry bro but I really dig the steampunk 1920's tone the show has. I think Legend of Korra is a solid show. I like it a lot and it's good to have the 'Avatar: Last Airbender' universe back on television at last. I also think that the animation is absolutely fluid and very easy on the eyes. The martial art body motions of the benders are very life like and tantalizing.

The steam-punk stuff was cool, but the story/characters ended up going down hill. The romance was of course really bad, but that's to be expected at this point. The whole Amon reveal was underwhelming.

Will someone PLEASE explain to me why a show where ELECTRICY was shown to be the main power source is being referred to as "STEAMpunk"? Fu@%!NG HOW!?
Sure, you could make the argument for the previous show being vaguely steam-punky because of some of the vehicles use by the Fire Nation did have that feel to them, but just barely. These shows aren't steam punk shows, they're martial arts shows. Deal with it.

Really? All the crazy weapons and steam-tech in Hiroshi Sato's underground lair is as steam-punk as it gets. And chill out. You don't need to tell people to "deal with it" over differing opinions.

I would call it Steam punk either, Early tech noir maybe ( see The old Superman cartoons)
    Cyclops ad portas

Yeah, that would be great if we were actually talking about differing opinions here, but we're not. It wasn't that someone said the show is great (which it is, fu@& the haters) and someone said it sucked, that's not what happened. The show was being labeled as being in a genre that it isn't. Calling Avatar and Korra "steampunk" because there are underground lairs and mechs is like calling Star Trek a crime noir show because of that one episode with a planet that's all 1920's Chicago gangster. They're not using steam, they're using electricity. And electricity generated by fire benders no less!
But yeah, the show's is great, the only thing that really hurt it was that it was too short. Another six episodes would have fleshed out the characters a lot more. Of course now we have 3 more seasons for that and I couldn't be happier!

I think Diesel Punk is the proper term for the aesthetics design.

Can't wait to see Book 2, I personally loved Book 1 more than Book 1 of ATLA (and I thought the romantic subplot was fine, it was a love triangle that was portrayed pretty realistically IMO).
