I've been enjoying the Third Army so far, but it feels like we've been getting all these lead-up issues for too long. DC and Geoff Johns have been teasing this for a while and at times it's moved a bit too slowly. But unlike Marvel, DC is willing to take time to set up a story. That approach seems to be more effective and for that reason I'm far more willing to be patient with DC, especially after the disappointment surrounding AvX.

I knew that Tomasi was going to use the subplots he created on issue 0.

It seems like this villain will be one of the catalyst to the "Fall of Guy Gardner" story that Tomasi is planning.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.

Tomasi did a LOT to build Guy up, so I suppose it's only fair that he be the one to break him down.

Who is that Purple guy? Would I be able to hop on here? I was thinking of either hopping onto Green Lantern Corps or New Guardians. Is it true New Guardians is going to explore the different emotional spectrum, thus catching me up on Green Lantern Mythos, and what issue could I also jump on that?

I sincerely recommend to start with issue 1 of GLC, but you can also start with issue 0 since it introduces the villain that they're going to use in this storyline and it also sets sub-plots for the future.

New Guardians on the other hand, has'nt done anything worthwhile for its characters, mythos or us.
