Comics for elementary school kids?

Hi everyone. I have managed to convince the Parent Organization at my daughter's school to consider putting comic books in their library. The president of the organization needs to take it to the higher-ups at the school to convince them. I am looking for individual comics or authors that she could bring up to the board. So I'm looking for collected editions or original graphic novels that are appropriate for grades K-6. The school is a bit conservative (not overly so, but a bit), so "appropriate" might be a bit more restrictive than you think, but we'll have to see. If they have some educational value (historical comics) that would be great, but it's not necessary. I have some ideas, but just assume that I don't know any comics whatsoever in this category. Any help you can give would be great.

The book is a Cat Named Haiku, totally inoffensive and perfect for younger readers. And anyone who likes cats. Which pretty much means anyone who isn't just awful. :P

Hi. We have a 6 year old who really enjoys comics, and here is what I have gained from trial and error. I won't repeat the others everyone has mentioned, but I'd add Mouse Guard, Green Lantern, the Marvel Adventures line, and Ultimate Spiderman Adventures to the list. Anything by Art Baltazar and Franco is typically a hit around here (their collaboration with Mike Norton on the Billy Batson book is fantastic!), and any of the TinTin books!

Yes absolutely! Sorry about that and thank you for catching that. We don't read the Nu52 Green Lantern with our six year old.

I really don't think "Supers" belong to an Elementary library - although I may be partially hypocritcal to say, since my old Elementary School library had at least one book on Hulk and another on X-Men, that I used to check out, absorbed again and again back when I was there in the mid nineties. I'm sure, just by labelling it "Adventures", means some educational value, like some lesson in the end, BUT, unless or until the likes of Doctor Octopus or Metallo could actually be talked out of a crime, there will always still be some degree of VIOLENCE in there.
