As others say you still haven't explained how it isn't a Die Hard movie.

I had problems with the 4th movie before it got in theaters. McClane was supposed to be this ordinary guy who was put into a situation that he had to save lives, even at the cost of his own. He wasn't this one man army invincible superhero. It wasn't till I've seen the movie that made me change my view of the movie.

It had none of the feel of Die Hard movies plus never once Bruce Willis felt like John McClane whether it was dialogue and so forth. It was like he was phoning it in. What makes Die Hard movies works are the relationships. Wether It was Bruce with the black cop in the first and his wife, or the asshole police chief that doesn't trust him. In the second, his wife was still involved and you had Dennis Franz on his case. Third movie he and Sam Jackson were great together. McClane got put through Hell like classic McClane. In the fourth flick, I saw none of that. Even when he tried saying his "Hippi kya yea" he sounded half-assing it. The supporting characters were lifeless. Justin Long, awful and annoying. It felt like "alright we're do action scenes and put the name Die Hard in there". Also I think McClane works best when he is in a confined envrionment and has to survive like a rat(even if NYC is a HUGE confined environment) and it never felt this way in DH4. The villain was underhelming, the threat, who the Hell thought a computer-driven plot would be in any way shape or form exciting?

DH4 felt the same way as Indiana Jones 4 to me. It has the same actor but it felt just wrong. Like some lifeless husk trying to repeat past glories.

If there is a flaw in the fourth movie it's the villain. Although, like I said before, even the villains in the other sequels pale in comparison to Hans. They've tried but they cant match the charisma Hans carried in the first movie and him and McClane had excellent chemistry. Even the minions in the first one were more enjoyable because the first one actually bothered to give them actual personalities instead of just acting like faceless minions. Or emotionless minions.

Still didn't stop the sequels or Die Hard 4 from being entertaining though

Sorry, no. Die Hard 4 was still awesome. Yes, his sidekick sucked, but his daughter made up for that in awesomeness.

Also, McClane hasn't been stuck in a confined space since the first Die Hard.

Oh, man, I love all the Die Hards. I think they all hit an interesting balance between experimentation and keeping true to John McClane's character.

No one's quite matched Hans Grueber, but really, how the hell could they?

Love how the fourth one was all about his technology issues, which were introduced in the second film (the fax, the cell phone).

Mini plot spoilers concerning the recent film.

I hope the son in this one doesn't end up annoying. While I don't expect him to be as badass as McClane I do hope he becomes as tolerable as the daughter in the 4th movie and not some whiney little bitch

Wow this generation deserves mediocrity. His daughter? I guess you enjoyed Kevin Smith too.

Also, McClane hasn't been stuck in a confined space since the first Die Hard.
Second movie he was in an airport. Third movie he was running all over but it was still confined to NYC trying to surivive like a rat amidst traffic and so forth.

Yeah, no. His daughter was freakin' bad ass, in keeping with the McClane clan name.

You have an exceptionally broad definition of confined. "He was confined to the city!" Well, in Die Hard 4, he was confined to the United States ;)

Also, he wasn't confined to the airport in the second movie. He left the airport to hit the bad guy's base, and then returned later. Just because he spent some time in an air vent doesn't mean he was confined there.

You hate the recent movies. Not everybody shares your view. Just deal with that

So he was "confined" to a sprawling, cavernous building complex and almost 500 sq. miles of open city? Really?

Just because his name gets tossed around for every action concept these days, I'd say Liam Neeson could be a fun villain for a Die Hard flick.

I am always interested in Die Hard, but this fifth one sounds like a Die Hard from hell. I don't need no stinking father-son relationship Die Hard.
