Christmas is about Santa Claus, and Rudolph, and decorating trees, and Frosty, and Christmas lights, and unicorns, and cookies, and presents! And therefore should be celebrated for as long as possible. If Christians want to celebrate the birth of some dude, on the same day that Santa comes, that doesn't bother me too much.

My favorite holiday will always be Thanksgiving, but I like Christmas.

Due to the federal government, DC proper is very sterile during the holiday season, which sucks - I definitely miss city holiday lights at night. I also like Christmas eve lunch and Christmas Day dinner. And all of the classic Christmas cartoons. Since high school, I've been more into giving gifts and am cool with not receiving anything. My mom always gets me something practical, though, which I definitely appreciate.

I cannot do that, we have to save all of our toilet rolls for our niece's hamsters.

I'm not surprised. Popular Culture tends to creep in from around the edges.

It may also be a bit of what I call the "Lewis Black Holiday Effect," which sums up as popular culture does everything it can to make Christmas look good, and Chanukah look shitty.

And I have plenty of friends who are lapsed Jews(is there a better term for this?) who celebrate both holidays, and have bleed from one to the other.

But the actual narrative, the actual practices of the holiday(Menorah and all that)?

Pretty internally consistent, from my outsider's perspective


Edit: also, that was about Chanukah, not Christmas, so it doesn't count towards the shutting up part.

That reminds me. I have to start cleaning the menorahs and getting them ready for this year.
