I keep hearing/reading positive things about this book but haven't purchased an issue yet. Mann's artwork looks amazing.

Gambit's been fun. As long as he carries her along and bounces the fun off of her then I don't mind her too much because its obvious has heck she will be back. As for Muffy herself, she's been the biggest cliche/bond girl on the planet. Her "betrayal" wasn't even a betrayal. Its exactly what she basically said she was doing from the start. Why Gambit can't predict her every move, I don't know because she's been completely obvious and is about as mysterious as a paper bag. Unknown background, yes - mysterious, no.

That said, the art is beautiful. The god creature is stunning and Gambit's wittiness and shear self depreciating charm is so well written by Asmus, I don't really notice until I read the story the second or third time what a peice of predictable card board fluff Muffy is. Now thats how you use a female plot device. Take note some Wolverine writers.

Please don't take this wrong but so what. She is a support character/plot device doing what that character is suppose to do for the book. So, it really shouldn't be the big deal as some make it out to be. It really isn't a big deal. And as readers we've had months, Gambit has had days, there is a difference. Sometimes you just gotta actually enjoy the story for what it is, in this case, its a pretty well crafted and entertaining story. IMO.

Yes, every solo writer can learn from it, but again its the use of this support character actually helping the story along. That shouldn't be a negative for the book, yet Muffy is still held against the title. This character is doing exactly as intended. Asmus has had a very good handle on this book from the get go and it shows.

    Mann's art is amazing.

It was a comment. Why so defensive? I never said it makes or breaks the book but she's pretty card board so far is all I said. Its the difference in "her" being fun and the fact that Gambit is just fun playing against another character. Its not a detriment except to Muffy herself and a little about Gambit basically trying to make her out to be more than she is so far. Some act like the book has to be perfect and no one can say anything about it or ohs nos, the whole book is ruined. Nothing of the kind. I like Uncanny X-Force and its been pretty good overall but that doesn't make it perfect and noted as such.

If anything I think its pretty impressive that something fairly minor is the only flaw that is notable about the book. As you said, its not that big a deal in the whole scheme of the book or the story as long as the writer isn't trying to make me like her yet for more than the plot device she is. For what she is, she's actuallly not nearly as annoying as she should be. It does not take away from the fun or story much so it's only a minor quibble. For a comic, its far better than ones with glaring problems like Wolverine's recent female plot device Remus ( shudder)

Gambit's had the same information we have. Basically her telling him exactly what is "driving her" just leaving out the specifics and her actions are completely predictable given that. It's my only real comment about Gambit's characterization in that he's reacting to Muffy based on a mystery that we are being told exists but the story just doesn't support. Having an untold backstory does not make a character mysterious. It makes their history a mystery but a mysterious character who is unpredictable is something else from an unknown backstory. She's just not that (though she might get to be later on depending). That's honestly the worst I can say about the book so far. Bur praising her for being fun when she's only interesting because Gambit interacting with her is interesting is not the same thing. He's fun. She's not so much but he has to play off of someone and she does that fine. Though I do think she could be replaced by almost any female who has to interact with Gambit. Which is sort of my point.

That shouldn't be a negative for the book, yet Muffy is still held against the title.
Who's holding it against the title? The only one I would hold it agains is Muffy herself, and that would depend on what becomes of her not the book. I actually said that it overcomes her predictablity to the point I don't notice it until a later reading which as I noted is darn good writing in comics because by default comics have some fairly predictable tropes.

I'm not defensive, I can't tell what the heck your complaint is most of the time because it seldom makes sense to me. I challenge you to understand what the heck you are talking about. This was a much better response, and I see what you are saying. Sometimes whether people mean it or not, some of this stuff comes across as a flimsy complaint is all. It's all good. :)
