I certainly won't complain about Webb returning. Garfield was a no duh, but Webb becoming available is nice to hear.
I'm even more excited for the sequel now. I loved the first movie and was right behind Avengers for me as my favorite films this summer.
Didn't see the first movie, thought this was about the cat, dissapointed and hungry for lasagna now.
Nothing's gonna happen without a warning
The first movie had it's flaws. But with any first movie it's growing pains. You could see the potential in there. I liked the Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in this flick. That was because of the natural chemistry between the now love birds Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. There were some parts that needed to be trimmed. And others that shouldn't have been in there in the 1st place. This is the first time Webb worked on a superhero movie. Now he's learned from it. Probably heard the commentary and realized his mistakes. Now he knows (hopefully) what works and what doesn't work. Right now I think the sequel will be great. Hopefully I'm not wrong.
My final opinion on Amazing. It was all right. Could have been better. The movie was frustrating at times because you could see so much potential there as I stated earlier. Hopefully this potential is realized for the sequel.

Stetsons are cool!~The Doctor
I hope they have Mary Jane show up in this one too. And she should be played by actress Kelsay Sanders who is the living embodiment of Mary Jane Watson on film. She can sing, dance, redhead and is a total babe with tons of charisma and maybe they can rescue this trainwreck still. Keep Gwen Stacy though.
Happy with this.
Preferred the Amazing Spider-Man to the previous outings with Maguire. It wasn't perfect but after the Avengers it was the most enjoyable film i saw this year. At least i could understand what the Lizard/Connors was saying unlike Bane.
Hulk - "Smashing is what Hulk does best!"
The first movie didn't do much for me. But if he cleaned up the babbling dialogue and plot holes hopefully we could get a good sequel.

Garfield is pretty much a no brainer, he surely signed for at least 3 films.
Webb did a good job, and it's probably a good thing that the backstory stuff they were setting up in 1 (and more heavily in the trailers than in the final film) won't be passed off to some shooter.

Not trainwreck but the first movie was so much wasted potential. They could have had a Mary Jane cameo at the end with the "Face it, Tiger!" line, which Webb had an opportunity to do for the very first time on screen. J. Jonah and Harry and Norman Osborn should have been there too. The Lizard was a much weaker character without his wife and kid as his moral anchors. There could have been more zings from Spidey. Even "With Great Power.." wasn't used properly in the film. And who cares about the "mystery of Peter's parents"? For 99% of the universe, May and Ben ARE his parents.
That movie had so many plotholes and a complete misuse of its budget. It looked and played like the director had no idea what he was getting into. The Avengers did so much more with the same money and more story to tell. Having said that I feel getting Peter and Gwen out of highschool and into college and get Harry, MJ and Flash more involved in the story would do wonders for character development and conflict. I don't think MJ should be a cameo in the second because she needs to develop a relationship with Gwen as well and you don't just do that in one movie. It was such a waste not to do the cameo at the end of ASM credits like the rumor that was going on.
I agree that Dr. Connors should have had a family-- but that would have required at least two extra characters, right? there were too many scenes of Parker using his powers w/o the mask. it would have been really obvious to anybody with half a brain that he was Spiderman. I would have liked to have Captain Stacy in the film a little bit more. the mystery of Peter's parents was the biggest problem for me. and mentioning Osborn so early seemed like a mistake. the flashbacks about Osborne being a 'dying man' didn't really help that much. the film wasn't a trainwreck-- but there was a lot of wasted potential. it kept the movie from being totally awesome... it was merely pretty good.
Keep in mind that the movie is also based on the Ultimate Spider-man comics such as the speech Uncle Ben had Peter came from the Ultimate Spider-man comics such as the Uncle Ben's death and Peter letting the robber getting away at a deli, Peter's personality, etc (plus the fact that Uncle Ben never even used the "With Great Power" phrase in Amazing Fantasy#15 also a lot of comics and some of the cartoons dealt with what happen with Peter's parents(not to mention the fact that realistically someone would have to wonder about what happen to their parents and who they were before they died). In my opinion it's better to not show every character in the spider-man comics and just set up things for the sequels to deal with. The Daily Bugle was used and we know it exists(also don't forget the fact in a lot of comics and cartoons Peter doesn't meet JJJ immediately) and same goes for Oscorp and Mary Jane(we already had 3 movies deal with her, it's time for a break and the fact that shows like Spectacular Spider-man and Spider-man TAS waited a while before showing her). Andrew Garfield Spider-man has had more quips/wisecracks in this movie than Tobey Maguire did honestly.
Plus this reboot isn't trying to be exactly like the original trilogy where Norman Osborn(Think of him as Chris Nolan's Joker in this sense where they hint at him and set him for the sequel to deal with him), J. Jonah Jameson(like was it's hard to find someone who can match if not top J.K. Simmons JJJ), Mary Jane Watson, and Harry Osborn appeared immediately in the first movie and were the main characters and main focus points of the three movies(I'm not counting Spider-man, Uncle Ben or Aunt May because they are important parts in the origin story and I'm also not counting Dr. Connors because this is the first time we see him as the Lizard and a villain compared to the previous trilogy as well as the fact as he is taking the role of Eddie Brock Sr. in the ultimate comics in the role of Peter's dad Lab Partner working for a Corrupt Businessman in the form of Norman Osborn instead of Bolivar Trask and I'm also not counting Flash Thompson and Gwen Stacy because they were hugely underdeveloped in the original trilogy and Gwen was nothing like the original Gwen in Spider-man 3). I agree though it's kind of unfair to cast Martha and Billy Connors and not use them as well as deleting and not using a lot of scenes like The Lizard killing Dr. Ratha which hurt the movie.
Plus Let's face it one thing Chris Nolan did a good things in terms of character development as well as not showing Joker and Harvey Dent in Batman Begins but instead just hint at them to come in movies to come in order to set up the trilogy which is exactly what Marc Webb did with this movie.
First of all you're comparing the Avengers, a movie that was set up and used plot points(such as the cosmic cube, Loki, Captain America and the super soldier serum(creating basically people like Hulk, Abomination and Red Skull), S.H.I.E.L.D creating the Avengers, etc(and not even explaining little things like how did Thor and Loki came to earth for example) ) from 5 previous movies(as well as a few comics),various one shot movies, etc as well as a numerous set of cast and crew and producers to Amazing Spider-man, the first of a trilogy which is trying to set up plot points for it's sequels to deal with like what happened to his parents, the mystery behind Norman Osborn and Oscorp, finding his Uncle's killer, who was the man talking to Curt Connors in the scene after the end credits, etc? In Avengers you already knew the character's back story and personality (except for Hawkeye who only had a cameo in Thor and Maria Hill) and they were already pretty developed as characters in Avengers and the story, like I said, was already set up/told by 5 previous movies. That's like comparing an apple to a tomato(or apples and oranges).
Spectacular Spider-man,Marvel Age/Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, Amazing Fantasy and Amazing Spider-man#1-28, Spider-man loves Mary Jane and Ultimate Spider-man are both few of the various Spider-man cartoons and comics that were able to have Peter, MJ, Flash, Harry, Gwen, etc in High School and have plenty of character development, conflict and told the story pretty well. I'm not saying Peter and Gwen might not/shouldn't go to college in the trilogy, I'm just saying that being in High School can still have a lot of development and growth for characters. One example, Flash seemed to have developed more as a character in Amazing Spider-man (starts acting nicer to Peter, starting by sympathizing with him due to the murder of his Uncle Ben. By the end of the film, Flash is implied to now be a friend of Peter's (though he still calls him "Parker") and like in the comics, expresses admiration for his alter-ego "Spider-Man", as he is shown sporting a Spider-Man T-shirt) compared to the Flash from the first Spider-man movie(just a one dimensional bully basically bullies Peter and dates Mary Jane and then just shows up at Harry's funeral in Spider-man 3).
and why would Mary Jane come out of nowhere after she wasn't even alluded to/hinted at unlike the comics and cartoons where Aunt May tried to set Peter Parker up with Mary Jane various times before Peter finally gives in (J. Jonah Jameson and Norman Osborn was hinted at through the various Daily Bugle and OsCorp appearances Respectively). If Aunt May hinted at or talked about Mary Jane or Anna Watson then it would be a different story.
