REVIEW: Ultimate Comics Ultimates, #16

Captain America has been elected by a landslide in "Ultimate Comics Ultimates" #16 by Sam Humphries and Luke Ross. Now it's time to heal America the only way he knows how: by punching things.

Different strokes for different folks I guess, four stars seems a bit high by mileage though.

I really liked it. I had given up before Hickman completed his run and came back last week just to check and I quite enjoyed the tack it's going.

For me, this was the best issue since Ultimate New Ultimates #3. It didn't top it, but it was damn close.

It's a change of pace from Hickman but I thought it was a fun story. The only problem I'm seeing with President Cap is that I think it sort of limits what can be done with him in the future. President Cap to me seems like an endpoint to his story arc.

Ultimately, he'll either have to step down at some point.
Lose favor and get voted out.
Win a second term.
Or get assassinated.

The last option has been done, and the other three result in a diminished stature. I mean after being president going back to regular Cap seems kind of like a demotion.

Also..isn't Cap ineligible for the presidency? He's definitely not 35 in the UU, unless they are using his actual birth year as justification. If that's the case I must have missed it or it slipped my memory.

I agree that NU #3 was Loeb's best issue. That is the end of my agreement.

I'm not generally following the Ultimate, or any universe for that matter, I pick up books that have good to great art, and, at a glance, an appealing story (I know, how can I tell, well I apply that criteria pretty loosely). Anyhow, this comic, Ultimates #16, really, really disappointed me. I just had to say it, I'm not going into why, it just seemed totally inane to me. President Cap? Please.

Am I the only one who sees the potential here? We have Cap with is something like a Conservative with a large C, then we have Tony with is the liberal and then Thor who is something of a hippie (or used to be but no reason he can't find his social awareness back again). I think it could be a great way of putting policy into comics without taking a specific side and I would love to see how these character deal with different problems. Maybe because I not an american but who knows ;)

It definitely has alot of potential, especially the idea of Texas being independent since thats something you can hear from the very real world Texas, but all these problems we're solved and Captain America practically forces re-union, we never even see anything outside of mere dictators in different parts of America, but with someone like Captain America being the President, you could truly get some interesting ideas and concepts like the world actually forcing it's hand at global peace, giving food to the poor and taking down the very evil 1% with it's Occupy Movement, but right now it doesn't seem like anything outside of a 616 story, like many have noted, why isn't he President Rogers? Yeah he's a symbol, but everyone knows Steve Rogers = Captain America.

Will we ever see Captain America going Black Ops missions on North Korea, Russia and so forth? I honestly don't see Humphries having any direction, but please, prove me wrong!
