I actually don't like this development. I've read a lot of Mark Millar's work from Ultimate and Wolverine. And I think he doesn't have a good handle on the characters. Pretty much every character he writes turns into an asshole. I'd rather not see that in X-men or Fantastic Four movies. I don't want the characters to be edgy for the sake of being edgy. Millar is great with stuff like Kick-Ass, but when he wrote Ultimate X-men he actually admitted he didn't know much about the characters. So why would he be a consultant on the movies? I think it's a bad choice for a couple of franchies that can ill-afford to make them.

'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."
I never liked the take on the FF as younger characters. But I see this as potentially a good thing. If a choosen consultant cannot turn out a killer FF film, then maybe, just maybe the rights will eventually revert back to Marvel, and then they can do it right.

Definitely an interesting choice.
What surprised me is that Fox stated they had a "shared Marvel Universe" in the official press release. Here is the quote:
http://www.deadline.com/2012/09/fox-...el-properties/Commented TCF production president Emma Watts: “We are excited to be working with Mark. In addition to his groundbreaking Marvel work, he is simply one of the most original voices in comics today and will be an invaluable resource to us and to our filmmakers as we look for fresh opportunities to innovate within our shared Marvel universe.”
Fox might be taking the Marvel approach with their future movies. This move seems to indicate so.
Not really. Millar's been doing quite a few rounds in Hollywood between Wanted (1 & reportedly 2), Kick-Ass (1 &2) and Nemesis. How many comic book creators can say they've had that kind of success? And that's multiple independent properties. Whether the guy knows all of the right people or he knows how to make an outstanding pitch, Millar gets films made.
If anything, his hand should at least ensure some decent action.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!
They better not make X-Men anything like his Ultimate versions.
Blerg.
Millar has had a few good comics, but, by and large, I tend to really dislike his work. Hopefully he doesn't get too much input on future X-Movies...
