    Default PREVIEW: 47 Ronin, #1

Among the best-known tales in Japanese history, the legend of the 47 Ronin and their epic mission to avenge their disgraced master epitomizes the samurai code of honor. It has been said, "To know the story of the 47 Ronin is to know Japan." Retold through the ages, the legend at last comes to comics in a meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated miniseries from Mike Richardson, Stan Sakai, and editorial consultant Kazuo Koike! Recounting this sweeping tale of honor and violence in all its grandeur, chapter one details the tragic incident that would seal the fate of Lord Asano and set forty-seven of his vassals on a years-long path of vengeance!

Damn it, I was hoping this would be in B&W. Well, at least the coloring job is good and it will be great too see Sakai's art again. Cannot wait for November!

Well, now we all know what the secret project was that Sakai was referring to months ago when he announced Usagi's hiatus.

I'm eagerly awaiting this series, but I really need my regular Usagi fix.

It's probably Tom Luth (who's done cover colors for Sakai's Usagi books as well as the coloring on the various Usagi color specials). Sakai did his own colors for the Usagi OGN, "Yokai," but that was done in watercolors which doesn't seem to be the case with this book. (And, unfortunately, colorists rarely get any real promotion or hype for their work unless they manage to cross the line and become a "real" artist--like a penciller or inker.)

This looks so good! I haven't collected Usagi in what feels like years.

    I am definitely getting this.

Yeah I was expecting black and white as well but it doesn't look bad. Can't wait!

Oskar, Dupont, yeah me too, big black and white fan here, hoping for more. to me the coloring is very flat, almost primitive, or unfinished, and off-putting; works well on the big street scene, but not terrifically. & I wanna say everything by Sakai is terrific!

This looks sweet! I already ordered the first issue at my local comic book shop.
