This movie was awesome for two reasons:
#1 Joss
#2 Whedon

OK, I'm hardcore. Saw the movie 5 times in the theater and already again on DVD myself. But I still have to ask... What "K'un-L'un reference"?...whether or not you were the kind of hardcore fan that caught that K'un-L'un reference...
I second (third) this. Where is the K'un L'un reference in the movie? I want to tease my brother for not catching it.
This guy is just a tremendous super fan creaming on the movie.
The movie was an average film that did what i needed to do to not mess up, but it still a super hero movie and it has all the problems that super hero movies have. The plan of the villains doesnt make sense, it just doesnt. It really just an excuse to have a big fight at the end.
The people who are fanatical about this movie are the most delusional nut-cases I've seen. Case and point, this very article. The Avengers was a mediocre kids movie. That doesn't mean that it can't be enjoyable, but every single point the author of the article made was just flat out wrong. Look at something like this http://problemswithavengers.blogspot.com and try to still make the argument about how great and perfect this movie is.
Simplest reason why Avengers was the best movie of summer 2012 is Batman didn't lie about the autopilot for no reason!

I loved Avengers, and I don't even care much at all for Joss Whedon.
The move is just FUN, and it understands that we want to see these characters interact mentally as well as physically. I want to know what Tony thinks of Banner, what his opinion of Cap is, and his take on Thor... and vice versa. Part of the joy of a movie like this is seeing the ensemble riff off each other. Hopefully by the sequel Hawkeye will be in a better position to participate in all that.
The last thing I want is for the Avengers movies to become too serious or too strained to be logical.
That said, I think the big challenge for the sequels is in the villain territory. They can't do the "alien-battle-over-a-city" again.

How does it "not make sense"? It's basically standard villain plot #1: storm in with overwhelming force and kill anyone who stands against you with enough bloody mayhem to make anyone who's left to scared to defy you. It's certainly not original or innovative; but it's been a proven winner many times, not just in movies but throughout actual human history. Many nations have built impressive empires using it.
