Looks bad. Peter Milligan is such a weird writer. His output is really all across the board.
I wonder if this title survives past issue 16. The sales don't suggest cancellation but no one really talks about it and I don't see what it's going to achieve at this point. I think it may go away the way JLI went away, not because sales necessitate it, but because editorial comes up with something that works better in its place.
I'll be curious to see if this squares the Empire of Tears from Alan Moore's "Tygers" story with the shite retcon created by Geoff Johns about the 666 massacre.
Anyway, reads pretty mediocre but he's working with mediocre material, so we'll see. The last little bit seems to indicate the 5 inversions, which makes me curious (if not gives me hope)

Looks pretty good to me, looking forwards to the rest of it.

Hot damn, I've been waiting for Syaf to get this book since it launched. That said, this preview didn't wow me, and I'm not looking forward to the big crossover. I wonder how much of Milligan is still invested in this stuff.
I like the concept of Atrocious planet getting massacred but I really was expecting more depth into the manhunters then just oh they killed them all.I mean we already know what happened but this preview is just the same as saying his planet died. There is no substance.
I thought that part was pretty good for a little six page opener. We got a good feeling of dread with the Manhunters just standing around (the full-spread with Atros' little girl saying to the Manhunter that it looks stupid was a good mix of dark humor and creepiness). Honestly, I think this should have been the whole issue--showing more of "Atros'" homelife, who he was before the Manhunters destroyed his sector, truly SEE what it was that made him become who he is today.
Oh, it does. I expected more from Syaf, to be honest. He knocked it out of the park on a few other comics and was my ideal replacement for Benes. But I still have his back.
All I want for this title is a sense of direction. My problem with is that if you asked me I honestly couldn't tell you what's going on.
I'm really hoping it picks up, because if it doesn't then I'm gonna drop it in a heartbeat (after #16 of course).
