Cool! Nephilim sounds like a new take on the Hulk, and that guy on the Portacio cover looks kinda like Captain America meets the Punisher.
Favorites: Fearless Defenders* New Avengers* Bloodshot* Shadowman* Archer & Armstrong
i really want to read this now. after the burn of AVX i need something like this
Nephilim sounds like Powerhaus from DV8
Loves me some Jenkins! I just got my copy of Fairy Quest in the mail today!
Check out my fantasy-adventure web-comic Strange Paths @ www.strangepathscomic.tumblr.com
This comes out the same month as avengers arena....hard to justify getting two books centered around a madman forcing heroes to kill each other
Batman Batwoman Animal Man Swamp Thing Justice League Dark Uncanny Avengers Adventure Time Ghostbusters Fearless Defenders Journey Into Mystery Superior Foes Of Spider-Man Trinity Of Sin: Pandora
After AVX And The Announcement Of Avengers Arena some people have just gotten sick of this concept(Heroes Fighting Heroes)so it's interesting that Jenkins is going with that concept although the difference is he's using that concept on a brand new universe filled with brand new characters
nobody has any attachment to these characters(Yet)and Jenkins has to make the readers care about the characters in a hurry because in a series Guaranteed to kill off loads of characters that just debuted you gotta make those deaths count you gotta make people really care otherwise it's just pointless
Batman Batwoman Animal Man Swamp Thing Justice League Dark Uncanny Avengers Adventure Time Ghostbusters Fearless Defenders Journey Into Mystery Superior Foes Of Spider-Man Trinity Of Sin: Pandora
I think the concept is going to work better with "new" characters. Avengers Arena sounds like fitting a square peg in a round hole, and a problem the Big Two will always have when doing that is what happens when you ignore previous continuity.
But there's a whole 100-something page thread on that elsewhere.
My reason for thinking this may be something special in that these characters are all new is that there's going to be no clear favorite (i would think). Each character is fresh on the page so literally ANYTHING could happen. (AVX happened and who died? One guy.. ooooh.. earth shattering.) I think it might be less like AvX and more X-StatiX.. but without the Pop Culture Weirdness.. just some straight up "Did you like that guy? DAID! How about this guy? DAID! and the guy with the armor? REALLY DAID!" and i'm not gonna hurt too much cuz my association with the character was only based on "hey, nice cape dude"
I'm hoping that this book delivers in that vein.. maybe even include lots of sidebar information on the heroes/villains a la newspaper clippings, threat reports, scientific data or top secret government files.. lots and lots of information so we can delve as much as we want into this new universe as we want..
I'm defnlee psyched for this..

creating a whole new universe of characters just to kill all but one of them might seem interesting to some people while others might find it going a bit overboard tons of interesting unique character ideas wasted on a battle to the death comic

For me personally, when I read Jenkins the interview, i was immediately caught by this:
It struck a chord with me, as those kinds of chats would break out all the time with my brother and friends.. we once almost went thru with a Spidey Rogues vs Batman Rogues style tourney but alas.. the thing would take decades the way they/we debate..When I chatted with the guys at BOOM! about the concepts, I literally put forward a type of NCAA chart containing our heroes and villains. It was really cool to be a part of the passionate conversations that followed. So with "Deathmatch," we have committed fully to the idea of fights between characters to the death.
I like the idea of it. And I love the idea of delving into new universes.. with new characters and such.. I'm really hoping he gives a ton of back-story information that I can go thru at my leisure. If anything, to me that would be where this falls apart.. where the reader can't get somewhat invested in said characters, so thats defnlee a challenge.. he does have to get us caught up immediately and yet allow the reader to choose their own favorites..
as for the idea thats it been played out, well, Marvel plays everything out.. and one guy died in AvX so far.. that tempted us with such promise and went and didn't follow thru.. this title 'promises' to follow thru, and without the BigWig corporate masters looming over it, I'm of the opinion this title will follow thru..
So I like the idea behind the title and I'm also convinced if anyone is going to do it right, its someone who's got the creative freedom to do whatever he wants.
Conversely, (since this has been pretty civil so far); What has you convinced it won't be worth reading (if you do feel that way)?
