Ah! Thank you! Still hoping it will somehow end well, even if it will only have the one normal-sized issue to wrap up in...

Now I know if you replied your most likely a supporter of Larsen, so the answers maybe a bit bias.

However, is Im just wondering how strong Savage Dragon is today compaired to its first few years? This book and Spawn was huge for me in the early 90's. Been thinking once I find the books I really like and get some sort of system together that I want to read regulary of chasing down all the singles in both of these books.

I was a fan when the book first came out. Lost interest for several years in the middle of the run. But I've been enjoying the last couple of years since Dragon's kids took over as the lead characters.

it's hard to compare Dragon now to Dragon then. Since the book takes place in "real-time" (meaning the characters age with the book), and dead means dead, a lot of whats going on now hampers on having always read the book. for example: dragons kids. i guess i'm just saying its hard to say what someone who has never-ever picked it up before would think. would they find it convoluted? i love it, but i have nearly every issue and started reading it from issue one. (ok, i dropped out for a few years in the early 2000's, but you get what im saying)

Don't really know why it would be complicated. It's Dragon's kids starring in the book now but new readers wouldn't know any different. They can just enjoy the series with this status quo and should they be intrigued, then could grab the back issues. It's NOT that complicated.

If you've ever thought about trying Savage Dragon but the high issue numbers intimidate you, why not visit the SD Wiki? You'll catch up in no time.

Have you guys noticed that the art on Dragon hasn't been Larson's best? I'm just hoping that the man was too busy with Extreme.

It certainly more loose than it used to be. Take that for what it is.
Tbh, i think its the colouring that gives it a very different feel from the earlier stuff. Its much more saturated and with harsher highlights these days.

Its my experience that as comic artists age their styles become looser and looser. We as outside observers tend to see earlier art as 'better'. But that's not really true. Early art is often 'rawer' and generally less refined, and that rawness sometimes attracts readers. As artists become more experienced, and learn more time saving short cuts, and get a better handle on their own style, their art just evolves. You can't stop it. Its not better or worse then it was. It just is.

That being said, the most recent issue of Savage Dragon was a tour-de-force of excellent Erik Larsen art. Man's still got the magic. Did you see those freaking graveyard scenes?!

Larsen's become faster and a bit sloppier on many panels, but not the panels that count, and his composition is the best its ever been in his career.

Also, everyone's art and writing suffers slightly when they have multiple books on their plate at once. They'll give more attention to some books and less to others, depending.

I'm betting Ant will be pretty damn great.
