Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
So far, another #0 to be skipped; but will still be a semi-regular on the regular number issues.
I'm just saying one thing.
"A few years ago".
Thank you so much for leaving it vague.
There's no point in leaving it vague when the main books keep hammering down that trite 5-year time line.
That said, she appears to no longer be a prostitute! Frank Miller's depiction sucks, so I'll take this.

Read the Interview. I feminism as a whole but I just hope Ann don't go to Overboard with it, Since it kinda Ruined the Wonder Women for me for years because of the Blatant Feminism that kinda oozed out of everything.
Didn't Brubaker bring back the prostitute origin during his run? So it hasn't been that long. Still I am glad they decided to go in a different direction, unless the other pages not shown reveal something else.
I love the character, but she actually hasn't been readable since Brubaker was handling her and before that, Mike W. Barr on Detective way back in the day.
Well, I believe Winnick implied that she was a prostitute at one point, but between the preview and what Nocinti's saying, it looks like she's adding a dash to the Batman Returns secretary bit to it.
I dunno...the preview is decent, she's saying all the right things...I'm cautiously optimistic.
She should be so lucky, right? But this is DC, so I'll believe it when I read it. That said, I'll take a Batman Returns origin over that of Year One's even if it is twenty years later.
I wonder why the sudden 360 from "sexy sexy sexy" to "accidental feminist". Did this just happen post TDKR when WB realized they were actually destroying one of their most famous brands by their recent marketing efforts of pimping out the character?
Hopefully this earnest, I guess I'd say melodramatic approach is just for the backstory #0 issue. I felt Winick really nailed her character, and she had heart but she was about doing what she enjoys with humor and whatnot, it read very well and true to the character. This here comes across as more generic, but I will give Nocenti a few issues to win me over.
On the separate topic of Frank Miller and Selina's history in the sex biz, I'm a fan of both.
Catwoman as a sexy sultry seductress is in the dna of the character. That has been key in her role in Batman for many decades. And for my taste, this was her best run in a long long time. But hey, we all have different taste.

DROKK IT!!
Did he?
I know in the first issue we got a flashback of kid selina and her prostitute friend, who was murdered by the russian dude. Then we got another flashback of kid/teen selina and Gwen on the streets stealing from men. The finally we got a flashback of teen/adult selina working with....wow, I forgot her name. :(
For a long time in CW's history they marked her as a "dominatrix" instead of a fulfledged prostitute, didn't they? DC didn't want her to be a prostitute in their canon, so they changed some stuff around or am I thinking of something else?

Not a fan of Miller (with the exception of ASBAR which makes me laugh) or the origin he saddled her with.
No issue with sexy sultry seductress, but there are classy and more nuanced ways of pulling that off. Unfortunately, that is not something I'd associate with this most recent run. Let's see what Nocenti comes up with. This most recent interview actually sounds better than her first one.
Winick didn't give any specific details on that I don't think, and sure it's been changed a lot over the years. And personally, I don't find the secretary angle to be that interesting. But that said, I've read several origins for her, and pretty much at the end of the day it's not that important to her current character. Issue 13 is when the real test of Nocenti's run begins, I hope she pulls it off.
Well hey, we all have different taste. As long as we all dig Catwoman.
