You know, the phrase "end of the world" always bugs me. What we typically mean by that is "end of human life" or "end of modern civilization". The truth is that it would take something insane to truly end this world. It will be here long after we have all passed. /rant

Well, in this case it's just the end of year in which some civilizations calender runs out, but if we're talking about an apocalypse, then yeah, the state of the world would depend on the apocalypse in question.

Most apocalypses just end with the termination of all or most human life, it's just that once humans are gone, it's pretty much the end of the world from their perspective.

Then you have the handful of really nasty ones like the planet exploding.
