    I got nothing.

It actually USED to be that way - his blasts were less precise and less focused without the visor - but somewhere along the line it turned into 'don't take his visor off or the city is gone'. Exaggeration, but...

It might come from writers reading all the times where his glasses get knocked off and everyone panics, and taking that idea the wrong way. Everyone isn't panicking because his blasts are more powerful; they're panicking because if he opens his eyes (due to stumbling, or getting hit, or falling over, or whatever), it's Zark-time at everything he looks at until he closes 'em again.

    :)
Actually, thinking back, I'm sure I've seen him taking his glasses off an drilling a perfect hole through a quarter. The implication then being that he doesn't actually lose control, rather he just wears the glasses/visor so he can actually look at things. Did that get reconned somehow?

I also remember an awesome instance of Rouge stealing both Cyclops and Nightcrawler's powers at the same time, turning into a super-strong teleporting demon lady firing energy blasts out of her eyes. (Being able to turn them on and off at will since she didn't have Scott's brain damage.) They should have done that more often.

He does wear the glasses/visor because if he doesn't, he ends up with optic-blasts coming out of his eyes constantly. Like a faucet. The ruby quarts stops the beams (don't know how, but it does).

The whole idea of him flipping his glasses up and down to zap is a little odd when it comes to precision, but I suppose it's possible. They wouldn't actually go up and down fast (his visor can do it extremely quickly, and the merest tremble in his body would create quite a change at the point of impact.

Also, scientists have shown that our eyes constantly move around involuntarily. Even when you think you're staring at one point, you tend to glance at others.

    But, comics. :)

Anyway, there have been lots and zogging lots of times where he has lost his visor, his glasses, or whatever (including one wonderful moment when Madeline Pryor punched them off his face, leaving him face-down on the floor of their home shouting 'Madeline, where are my glasses?? Crap crap crap!'' until he pulled the spare set of goggles he carried out of his pocket) and everyone would flip out.

My favourite combo is when she powerjacked Cyclops and Emma Frost, and then proceeded to use Emma's diamond form to reflect lasers everywhere.

Sure, kinetic energy should not work that way, but that doesn't matter because it's awesome.

I mean, the point is that it's always on full power, right? So, logically the visor should focus his power output rather than limit it.
Well, he's not exactly focusing there, is he? Quite the opposite. Massive wide-area bursts that cover his entire range of vision may well fall outside the scope of what his visor does.

I always wanted to see her powerjack Petey and Gambit, and do the Ultimate Fastball Special. Her strength plus Petey's throwing an exploding Wolverine. Using Northstar's speed as well might be overkill.

I don't think Logan would thank her for it though.

I meant that, since he apparently can't regulate the strenght of his optic blasts at all, his regular blasts should hit just as hard as the huge ones he fires when taking the visor off, only focused to a smaller area, thereby doing even more damage.

Ah, but the visor can control how much of a release it allows for, and as it's made of the only material that can block his powers entirely may well have a maximum amount it can let through lower than the maximum he can output.

Plus, just because he can't stop himself reliably doesn't mean has no control whatsoever... He pretty clearly has his eyes open in one of those panels without any more leakage than a faint glow.

The bigger question is that if his beams are kinetic... Why doesn't he do this?

If I ever decide to an RPG here, it's going to be set in a world of Endless Optimism.

And speaking of optimism, can I get an optimism rating- and general analysis- of the Taisabaki Ghost Technique?

    The technique in question:

My left hand is larger than my right hand.

I can fit the knuckles of my right hand through the handle of this comically large mug, but my left hand has to be slowly, slightly painfully squeezed into the same space.

    That kid looks familiar...

    Wait.

If that kid and the kid in this video are one and the same, that would be ridiculous.

And if they aren't the same, we may have an epidemic of awesome on our hands.

    Grr...

Refresh told me my post didn't make it in.

Also, deaf holes are cool, too, and apparently much safer to deal with than black holes.

If Braska had beaten Sin permanently, X-2 would have been a very different game.
