That's actually more common than one might expect in Chinese Kung Fu comics. Not like every villain is that way, but take Ancestor for example. That's the kind of stuff he does. He doesn't really use 'underhanded tricks' or stuff like that. He even seems to prefer it when he's outnumbered. One thing I like about this comic is that even though the villains are essentially Sith Lords, they still tend to be mostly honorable prefer to fight with the odds against them, which amusingly made it difficult for the hero to accuse them of foul play.
Basically, he's very happy to fight 'honorably', and is powerful enough to simply steamroll everyone while so doing. Sure, he has all kinds of plots happening, but they're more of the 'how can I get this thing that'll help give me immortality?' To which his answer is usually 'Kick down the front door, tell everyone in earshot I'm taking it, then do so. And if anyone tries to stop me, tough luck for them.'
