    Default CBR REVIEW: Hawkeye #2

"Hawkeye" #2 is a stellar example of comic storytelling and collaboration that shows another case file from Clint Barton's off-duty hours.

I still think the maiming of the crooks was out of character...

And I still think the art is simply gorgeous, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired.

Unsure if Marvel NOW! will end up a success, but the rather unheralded relaunching of Daredevil and launch of this book have hopefully shown Marvel that quality writing, cover art and interior art are really all that is necessary for fan's to jump on a title. A $2.99 price point does not hurt either.

I really did enjoy this issue, it was my favourite comic of the week!
Avengers Arena is one of the best books in the shops right now, it's seriously amazing.

I do have issues with it too. It made the character unlikable plus a teenage girl shooting arrows in the eyes?!!? Isn't that characterization more suited to a serial killer? Nice art won't redeem torture porn.

I wouldn't go that far, but this does seem a bit peculiar that Clint "Don't kill anyone" Barton and Kate "Young Avenger" Bishop just pretty much disfigured those guys. I mean, paralyzing that last guy? That's probably worst than death!

Let me get this straight. Some of you are complaining that the good guys shot arrows at guys who were shooting bullets at them?

I'm pretty sure the guy with the swords planned on stabbing Clint repeatedly. And before that, the plan had been to shoot him in the head and dump his body in the ocean.

They got what was coming to them.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

    How so?

The dialogue was excellent (on par with Bendis who is a master at dialogue), the pacing was spot-on alternating between minutia and high speed action, the last few pages where Clint asks Kate to be his partner were dripping with pathos and humor. What more could you want?

And yes it was disturbing that Kate shot someone in the eye, but Clint addressed it. He just did go on and on about it. And to my mind that's spot on characterization for him. He's always been a hair's breadth from being out of control and that's how I read him in that sequence.

The bolded part debatable, and would be another explanation to why I didn't enjoy the writing.

Though I guess the writing just looks worse then it actually is when it's attached to the art that's so great.

As I mentioned in the review thread definitely better then the first issue, so I guess that's something.
