    Default Green Lantern

"Green Lantern" #0 doesn't focus on Hal Jordan or Thaal Sinestro. Instead, it introduces Simon Baz, gives him and Green Lantern ring and sends him on his way in a different, but familiar, origin.

A Much as I disliked the fact that we were getting Another American Male GL when we already have 6 Lanterns from America and 5 of them are guys, I really liked this issue.

I surprisingly enjoyed this issue. The fact that this was the first time I am reading a GL origin story (yes I am a newbie) might have something to do with it.

I enjoyed the story, but I have a quibble with the opening scene. The planes hit the tower in the morning. The scene seemed to be set in the evening with the whole family watching together. Of course they could have been watching news coverage. A quibble, but it made me think more about the tragedy than the story at hand.

Well, I can't speak for islam specifically, but I think muslim families all get together in the morning and have prayer. That may explain why they're all gathered together in the morning.

Also, everyone was glued to the tv when it happened.

I am confused by your point... Dearborn has the highest percentage of Arab Americans of any U.S. city, and Detroit is like, over 82% Black. It makes sense for a fictional person of one of those races to come from there. I mean, people would think it is really weird if this issue had the same exact story but Simon Baz came from a wealthy suburb of Salt Lake City

Does Simon really need that mask anyways? I mean that room of people all know and heard the ring. His identity is known by enough relevant people to render the need for the Kick Ass mask pointless.

I actually think he and that current costume would be okay if you just got rid of the mask. I'd add the gun for exclusion, but I really think there's a connection between him packing and "Error". That cover to GL #18 conveniently hides his leg holster/gun with Kyle's arm. (Sorry I just realized what sort of mental imagery that just conjured up.)

Plus if he's ever going to be groomed for introduction in the DC movie universe, you might as well avoid the distracting GL masks that on an actual person look clunky along with any mention of the Corps mythos for at least the first movie.

I actually like the mask, an I think I remember reading that Manke said that there's a reason that he decides a mask is necessary so the mask appears to be story relevant

Of course, it's a well known fact that all the black and arab people in this country are from Detroit.

Impossible to think about a black dude from, i don't know, LA or New York. No. Must be Detroit.

I was ready to dislike #0 b/c Hal is my favorite GL of all time but I really, really enjoyed this issue and I think Simon Baz has the potential to be a great character.

They need to change the costume, IMO. He looks like The Gimp from Pulp Fiction.

So black or arab people can't be from Detroit? Did anyone stop to think it because Dearborn is good representative of arab people that it was chosen? Seriously, what is wrong with you people.
