I'm looking forward to this. The Dark Knight Returns is one of my favorite Batman stories. It was pretty unique for its time, breaking the mold for how Batman does things. It really set the tone for him being one of the darker heroes in comics. It was a pretty raw book so I'll be interested to see how much they water this down. Hopefully not too much.

and this is why I don't care for it at all. forcing a character to be dark just to make something new is boring and not organic to the character at all. If you wanted a dark superhero then make one, but don't twist an established character around just to be able to compete with the popular tropes of the day. I think that TDKR and Watchmen were some of the worst things to happen to modern comic books ever.

You might not like dark characters, no problem with that, but TDKR didn't twist Batman into a darker character, he was already pretty dark (well, some versions). And Watchmen used original characters. So no characters were 'forced' to be dark.
A lot of people get sentience confused for sapience. Your hamster is sentient, you are sapient. Intelligence is sapience.
