I got the first issue of this an was kind of underwhelmed....felt more like a primer than an actual first issue, so I passed on the rest. This #0 issue looked pretty solid and now that the actual stars of the book (rather than the unnecessarily long spotlight on the Trinity in the first issue) are heading it up and Grundy has shown up, it looks more interesting. Any thoughts from anyone else on whether I should give it another shot?
"Because these are young heroes now you can't really have the same multi-generational dynamic that there used to be where you have a Golden Age Atom and then you had Atom Smasher and then you had Damage -- you had all these different versions of the same character, basically. What we're trying to do is consolidate these iconic bits of when there are multiple versions of the character into one overall character."
Waiting for some people's heads to explode at the notion that the writer sees these three characters as essentially the same character.
It doesn't matter what the writer, artist, or editor had in mind when they created it, or what they said in an interview;
all that matters is what is on the page.
He's speaking of legacies.
Robinson wrote the best JSA stories in DC history. He's well aware that they aren't the same person(s).
Earth 2 has been some good world building. I do hope we get some more long flashbacks to this world. Wonder Woman, in all her incarnations, is my favorite DC character and icon. I had heard that Robinson had said somewhere that she was the first superhero on this world (and the superheroes of this world are called "wonders") so I'd like to actually see that in print.
I also love the coincidence of Robinson developing the Green and the Grey on Earth 2 with Snyder/Lemire's the Green and the Rot on the main DC universe. I like the idea that Alan Scott is kinda-sorta the equivalent of Swamp Thing on that world. I wonder if Robinson would be open to creating an equivalent avatar of the Red or if that would interfere with how he views magic and life being constructed on this world.
I hope DC holds off the inevitable crossover between its two Earths for at least a year beyond when this world's version of the JSA finally coalesces. When they do cross, it might be more interesting if it happens on the Dark side (Justice League Dark, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Frankenstein) rather than the expected JSA/JLA from Pre-Crisis.
You are very much correct in your summary of #1, not a great kick off. That being said, please jump back in with #0. Things have really been heating up.
My one little gripe is that I'm ready for an actual story to unfold and not have more secret origin exploits which seems to be what we have coming down the pike for the next few issues.
I know we spend a lot of time asking which heroes are going to show up here's a different one. After reading that Vandal won't/can't be used, who the hell is left villain wise? Other Sloane and Steppenwolf
^Well Robinson could update/reinvent some of the older JSA villains, and older villains of Jay Garrick, and Alan Scott.
He could use:
Icicle
Deathbolt
Dragon King
Knodar(he was a villain of Alan Scott's from the future)
Wotan(especially with Dr. Fate potentially coming in a few issues, and he's fought Alan Scott too)
Maybe Sportsmaster(young justice animated series has him in it, and he's a great villain in that)
Ultra-Humanite if he's available
Hazard(Psionic powers and mystic dice give either good luck or bad luck to the people she is fighting)
Robinson could also create some brand new villains, which could be good.
I really liked the art of when Terry eradicated the infected parts of the world. From space the explosions looked like Apokolips' firepits.

Surely I'm not the only one who thought that Terry Sloane came off a lot like the Watchman's Ozymandias.
