Default Bendis & Marquez Endorse Morales in "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man"

CBR News spoke with writer Brian Bendis and artist David Marquez about giving Miles Morales unexpected endorsements in today's "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man" #14, and their future plans.

Some neat stuff in the interview (also Spider-Men confirmed to take place before DWF).
Marquez will draw Hill's debut in issue #15 and then move on to issues #16.1 and #18. Artist Pepe Larraz will bring to life issues 16 and 17. "Pepe Larraz is doing issues #16-17 because Sara Pichelli is healing. I believe she talked online about how she screwed up her wrist doing 'Spider-Men,' but she still heroically made it to the finish line," Bendis said. "So she's going to heal for a little bit and then come back with issue #19, which kicks off a a big arc.

When Pichelli returns to "Ultimate Spider-Man" the plan is for her and Marquez to alternate stories on an arc-to-arc basis. At the time of this interview, Marquez was working on issue #16.1, which sets the stage for Pichelli's return arc.

"We're debuting a new Venom story line for Miles, and issue #16.1 is our big prelude to that story. So in the grand tradition of a Point One it's certainly an excellent hopping on point. It sets up everything about Miles and big mysteries about what's going on with Venom and stuff like that," Bendis remarked. "If you've been following 'Ultimate Spider-Man' this whole time and know the whole Venom story you're good to go and here's a new chapter in it. And if you don't know anything you're just like Miles, so you're in good hands."

Even though the book is paced a little to slow, I think this run with Miles will truly wind up special years down the line.

After reading the article and then seeing Miles flailing around on the web I'm thrilled. This book is getting even more fun.

And it's official, Spider-Men has no logical place in continuity considering Miles had to ask Peter if his web shooters were mechanical or organic, something he wouldn't need to after this issue.
Holding out for a Peter/Miles team up.

It's before Divided We Stand. Reading the article would have told you as much.

See, UCSM #14 heavily implied that May and Gwen were meeting Miles for the first time, and in Spider-Men it seemed like they were already familiar with Miles. But now Bendis is saying it's the other way around, because Miles gets UU Peter's webshooters in DWS but doesn't have them in Spider-Men.

    Bendis. Dude. Get it together.

Of course, I'm still stoked about these upcoming storylines. I still insist that this run will end up being as well-remembered and iconic as the original Bendis/Bagley run.

Also, I'm interested in the fact that UCSM is putting out a .1 issue. I didn't think the Ultimate books were doing the .1 thing. Personally, I love them, and I'm stoked to see UCSM put one out.

Yeah, I love that. I also love the way his right leg is flying behind him in the last panel, like he doesn't quite know what he's doing.

But that in itself is a pothole since the article says that she decided to pass the torch after seeing him in action with Peter yet he hadn't met her until last issue while in Spider-Men its clear they've met before.

Pichelli's artwork got really bad in the last issues of Spider-Men. In the first two she was excellent, but all of a sudden she stopped drawing proportionate and Miles's eyes got horribly large and cartoony, unlike the ones she had been doing which were proportionate to his head and you could even see the realistic plastic rims around them. What a shame.

Marquez continues to prove himself worthy as the one true artist of the book. Also, what a shame Bendis screwed up with Spider-Men with those plot holes and inconsistencies. It tells you they didn't put enough time on this and it came off rushed because of the 50th anniversary.

    And here comes the cohesion.
