I will say this...if Tom Brady guides the Patriots to another Super Bowl appearance , its no doubt ...he's the greatest QB who ever played. Sure he hasn't won the last 2. But it takes a lot to get there over and over. And if Brady does it...I think even his detractors will say he deserves that nod.

There have medieval executions that were more competitive than this game.

Baby Harp Seals have shown more fight.

In other words, business as usual. As soon as that whole blown touchdown call went down, I knew the Lions were done. They made a nice show of it by turning up the intensity after the call and continually hanging in, like a batter with a full count fouling off pitches, but the Lions just aren't fated to win games like thins.

As for the call . . . okay, I guess I get the 15-yard penalty for "illegally" challenging a call in order to discourage coaches throwing flags out at the drop of a hat. But the whole "well, we were gonna review it, but now that you asked us to review it we're not gonna review it even though we all know we're wrong and you're right" thing seems like the equivalent of mother telling a 5-year old "because I said so." The 15-yards penalizes them for the inappropriate challenge, but the refs should still have an imperative to get it right, regardless.

Every now and then you see a play that just sums up a team's entire year. Sanchez running into his own O Line, fumbling the ball, and it being run back for a TD is that play.

    Jabare is a little excited:

    The Lions got robbed today.

Let me preface this by saying I don't even like the Lions. I think Jim Schwartz is a bad coach and ndamukong suh is a dirty player. James Harrison, Ryan Clark are not dirty palyers. And Ed Reed is certainly not a dirty player despite that ridiculous NFL attempted suspension.

Ndamukong Suh and Richi Incognito, these dudes are dirty players, only difference between them is Suh's actually a good player as well.

That aside, Lions got robbed it was disgusting!
on third and long Lions had the Texans stopped short, yet for some reason refs didn't call Foster down. He gets up and runs for another 40+ yards for a touchdown. The Refs didn't even act like they were going to review the play. Than Schwartz throws the challenge flag and the NFL calls it unsportsmanlike conduct. The NFL and the referees have the nerve to say that the last play was un-reviewable now even though we clearly see it wasn't a touch down. That is some of the biggest BS I've ever seen. That is even worse than the Seattle v. GreenBay game. The refs than were inexperienced and didn't know any better. In this situation the refs should know better, yet they still allowed this travesty to happen.

If the Refs wanted to penalize Scwharts for unsportsmanlike conduct than make it a 15 yard penalty from whn the player was down. That is no excuse not to review the play. This is the whole #$%$#@@ reason we have instant replay. To try and call games fairly and accurately.
But that's the rule. It's not like the refs just decided to tack on the "no review", that's the rule book. And Schwartz damn well knew it and is taking full responsibility. The Lions didn't get robbed. They shot themselves in the foot again, like they've been doing for fifty years.

True, the refs are bound to follow the rules. The real issue is how did they end up with such a blatantly stupid/contradictory rule in the first place? My guess is that the "can't benefit from an illegal challenge" rule was in place prior to the implementation this season of expanded/automatic booth review for all scoring plays and that no one really bothered to examine how the new rule interacted with/contradicted the existing ones and didn't anticipate a circumstance like this. Which is a massive failure on the part of the NFL and the competition committee. It'll be interesting to see if any move is made to fix it, now that the flaw has been exposed.

Like the rule or not, if Schwartz doesn't do some thing stupid, it doesn't happen. But he's a hot-head (I don't think he can handle the pressure very well), so...whee, nine Thanksgiving losses in a row!

That makes no sense! Why not just have the refs do their job. Because the opposing team is irate over a call that happened to be incorrect the refs just say screw you and give the other team a touchdown? I'm sorry that is ludicrous. Why would you allow a play to happen that everyone saw to be false. This is a complete failing of the rules and the officiating.

This will probably be the only time I defend Jim Schwartz but this was not his fault. He threw the flag before the Foster even crossed the goal line.

People are way to quick to dismiss this call. If this was your favorite team you'd be screaming bloody murder. This isn't about Jim Schwartz making a mistake this is about a defunct review system and poor officiating. The play should have been blown dead as soon as his knee touched the ground.

It's one thing if the officials just missed it. Bad calls happen thats human nature. But to recognize it was a bad call immediately after the fact and than not reverse it, but punish the other team. The role of the official isn't to drastically punish teams who disagree with a rulings, its simply to officiate.

It blows my mind how people are content with unequal officiating. This is on the NFL. You simply make the call the player was down like any of the good crews would have this wouldn't be a problem.

The rule that you can't review a play because of unsportsmanlike conduct is flawed. It's even more flawed that throwing a challenge flag is unsportsmanlike conduct.

When a mistake is made one should try to fix it. All the NFL front office had to do was tell the officials to review it. Sports are suppose to be fair, this was not and is in no way the Lions fault. Your just covering for a broken rule and its wrong.

It was brought up about Welker and the words "Hall of Fame" was discussed a week ago. No WR in NFL history has 5 , 100+ catch seasons. Welker himself is going for #5 right now and is 20 catches away for it. It was brought up that he could logically if he stays in New England (and he wants to) can have 7-8 100+ catch seasons and be in line with some big numbers. That he's really showed how dangerous the slot WR can be in todays NFL and will have nearly 1,000+ career receptions by that point.

Oh, my god... the Jets sure stunk up the joint last night.

The question must be asked; which coach is more likely to be fired? Rex Ryan or Jason Garrett?

I say Rex Ryan because the quality of play has visibly declined, Garrett really hasn't raised or lowered thing since he's been there

my understanding of how challenges and reviews work, is that you can't throw the flag during a play, so Schwartz throwing the flag during the play negated any review

if that is wrong, anyone please correct me
