    Default Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt, #1

Peter Cannon is a world-famous author, an international celebrity, and the superhero known as Thunderbolt, acknowledged far and wide as the man who saved the world from destruction. Unfortunately, he has little interest in fame, even less interest in people, and the peace he has created is based on an illusion. Now, as old and new enemies plan to destroy his efforts-unaware of the secret he carries-Peter Cannon must fight to keep the peace and preserve his own existance, while fending off deadly foes...and mysterious admirers. Join co-writer Steve Darnall and co-writer/cover artist Alex Ross for the story of a hero who discovers that sometimes...things are not all what they seem!

Okay, it's out, and it's good! Very light on the action, but it gets the origin out of the way, explains the world he's in and his place in it, and sets up two sets of future villains. Plus, there's a nice unpublished Morisi story included from DC in the 80s, along with ample introductions to the character and his history.

Bottom line is that this is VERY new reader friendly---it doesn't assume you know anything about Peter Cannon. And the intros give you that added history should you care to go back and look up his prior exploits.

My rating: 8/10, mostly because of the light action.

The first issue was actually pretty darn good, the covers for this title were amazing and the interior art was absolutely fantastic and really showed what Jonathan Lau is capable of doing (probably his best work yet). The writing was very solid and this title has a chance at really appealing to a large crowd with people always looking for something new and fresh (or revamped) and with the existing Peter Cannon fans out there, I hope this book see's some strong sales over it's run.

    I'm hooked for issue #2!

This is my favorite Before Watchman title.

    What?

Seriously, though, I was hooked enough to be in for issue #2.

Really enjoyed this, and loved the addition of the Morisi story at the end. Am definitely on board with the series, and would really like to see a tpb of the original run from the Charlton era.

Like writer Steve Darnall I didn't know the character except for his Who's Who entry and the fact he had been an inspiration for Ozymandias. Advance interviews taught me that the character was creator-owned and that Ozymandias would be an influence on the new series. That influence is there.
We also learn at the end of the book that Darnall was influenced by a fill-in story by Pat Boyette. As such this series is a strange beast as it is influenced in equal parts by the original character, the fill-in and Ozymandias. But I can say it works very well, it is the best written Ozymandias you will find on the stand (down to Darnall having the good sense to have his character deny he is a superhero).

    Best reboot of the year.

Aside from Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon : Zeitgeist, I haven't read any other Dynamite Ent. titles. The majority of their books like Green Hornet, Red Sonja, etc. don't pique my interest but this did. I don't know if it was the fantastic Jae Lee cover or the art inside but I just had to get this and I'm glad to say that I wasn't disappointed by it all. I'm quite excited for the second issue and I'm even interested in checking out the two Charlton and DC titles featuring Thunderbolt. Hope they don't disappoint!

I liked it. In many ways though it's the antithesis of the Dynamite book.

    1) It's not a reboot. There's the slight tweak in costume by giving him pants, otherwise it easily can be read as picking up more or less where Morisi's series left off instead of re-writing it and giving him a kewl look.

    2) It's not influenced by Ozymandias, no tail-wagging-the-dog here.

    3) It's a superhero book where the character does superhero things. There's plenty of action and adventure.

    4) Clear classic comic art style with good line-work.

Wow. Great launch. Hopefully this creative team will stay on the book for an extended run. I like the writing (great ending!). The art was amazing. I love the character & the concept. I also loved the story by the creator Morisi. It was very entertaining. All this for $4. It was so worth the money I paid...

I can't believe with my love for the Charlton characters that I missed this book in the 60's & when DC relaunched it in the early 90's...
