So I've got tomorrow off for Veterans Day, and I'm undecided about how to spend it.

1.) Drive up to my LCS, pick up my books (about 3 weeks' worth), chat with my Comic Book Guy, treat myself to a nice lunch (Chinese perhaps), dig into some good books.

2.) Save some money, stay home, savor the solitude, fix myself a sammich, and immerse myself in the goodies that I already have at my fingertips (TV, comics, interwebs, etc).

Any holiday is better spent at a LCS talking comics and adding a few new books to your collection. As someone who doesn't live near a comic book shop, I can say without hesitation that the value of that experience beats any lazy holiday with a smmich and a TV.

Can I recommend you watch The Take. It's a british film and it was the first film I saw Tom Hardy in. It is without a doubt the greatest acting performance I have ever seen. I've never seen anything like it. Tom Hardy is an acting genius. The Take was a four issue mini series on TV, based off of the novel by Martina Cole. It's one hell of a heart-racing British Drama; the likes of which I have never seen so well portrayed. Tom Hardy, Freddy Jackson is a f*****g animal. Each of the four episodes take place a few years in-between one another, starting in the eighties and and moving into the nineties.

I'm thinking of gettng something like Netflix. Can I ask, why did you choose Netflix? I know of LoveFilm too and they seem really good, I just don't know which one is best. There are some really old films I'd like to watch, and I'd quite like to watch The Walking Dead too because I've missed most of the episodes. In the UK, LoveFilm is £4.99 and Netflix is £5.99.

Seriously for a TV show the cgi is off the charts even better then the Previous bsg episodes. I can't wait for when they use this kind of cgi for stuff like Star Wars live action series.

Are they still doing that? I heard a couple years ago George Lucas had over a hundered episodes planned, and there was going to be lots to do with the Hutts and the Bounty Hunters.

I like god of war. I can't wait for God of war 4. The ending to god of war 3 was awesome.

Starship troopers was just okay.

Are you mad? Starship Troopers was one of the greatest action movies of all time. I watched it when I was about 11 years old and it was one of the coolest action movies I had ever seen. It was really funny too. I think what was so brilliant about it was that it completely took the piss out of itself and all other American gun crazy, military films, whilst also honoring them, with how.. unbelievable it was. It was corny, but it was awesome in being so corny. Most definetly the greatest Sci-Fi spoof of all time, and with a massive budget to boot.

I think what was so cool about it was how it felt like it came from the mind of a kid, who dreamt up the most insane alien adventure and was given a 100 million dollars to make what he liked. And for that, we got something incredible. And it was SO funny, as it made fun of a lot of the old Arnold Schwartzenegger films with it's over the top commando feel. It was so much fun to watch. I remember watching it with my brothers one night and then we all got up the next morning and watched it again. Good times. We even got to see some boobs, which at the time was a pretty big deal.

Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are sort of like parts 1 and 2 of the same story. Skyfall doesn't continue the stories from those though.

I think LoveFilm is only for the U.K. that's probably why everyone uses Netflix in the US. Here is a chart to compare all the online resources. It doesn't include the U.K. sources though. I think that out of the U.S. people are not part of the plan. I was in Heathrow this past summer and tried to use Netflix on my laptop and it denied me access on my U.S. account. I researched this up and found a Netflix U.K. version but it had less titles and offers. Some of these services you have to beware because sometimes they don't offer it out of country unless you get your countries version of it.

Yah I'm not sure if they will do it now that Disney owns Star Wars. I mean what's the point Star Wars 7 is going to be made. That's going to make much more money then any live-action tv show. If we are looking at it through a producers eyes it would be a waste to make a live action series. But I do think they will continue improving on the cgi tv series like The Clone Wars and hopefully they finish up the Force Unleashed series cause I'm still waiting for the third one.

How on earth did your parents let you watch Starship Troopers when you were 11. Lol. For a spoof movie there was a ton of gore. I did remember buying Starship Troopers in VHS at a garage sale and my parents were clueless about what it was. They thought it was another Star Wars remake. I did get to watch it though. That poker scene was great! You're crazy! Quantum did have awesome action scenes. I did like how the story continued from the first to second one, though the second one wasn't too great.

I agree that the poker scene was great, I just feel like it's too long every time I watch that movie. And I really can't stand the way they use Mathis for exposition, for the people who don't know the rules of poker. Also, for those of us that DO know how to play, we realize the absurdity of four or five (I don't remember how many it was) people having such great hands in that last hand - "I've got a straight," "I've got a flush," "Well I've got a full house," "HA! I have a HIGHER full house," "too bad - I have a straight flush!" It's possible, sure, and I know it adds to the tension, but it's just unlikely (as if anything in the movie is realistic).

Plus, Bond is a baccarat player. Hold Em was at the peak of its popularity at that time, so they changed it up. Though, Hold Em definitely works better for the kind of tension they needed in that scene.

In related news - I saw Skyfall on Saturday. Man was that a good movie. It's now right behind Avengers for me for movie of the year. And really, Skyfall was a better film, but I love Avengers so much.

I think I'll be getting Halo 4 for Xmas. The only campaigns of Halo games I've played were ODST and Reach. ODST sucked but Reach was fun. Would I need to play Halo 1 - 3 to know what's going on in 4?

No, you can play Halo 4 without knowing much as far as the story goes, but knowing a decent bit of Halo lore will really help, especially the relationship between Chief and Cortana. But I imagine that it would become pretty clear if you just jumped right in, even if you didn't read anything.

As for ODST, I loved the campaign, but it's really an expansion to Halo 3 and not its own game. It's a fun side story; it just doesn't do much by itself. Reach, on the other hand, was awesome. It's still my favorite of the campaigns. Halo 4 was great, too - awesome ending.

You should play Halo 3 sometime, the campaign is really fun, and the multiplayer is still the best of any of them. There's still an active online player base, despite there being now two games since.

While i can agree complaining about DC's initial marketing of the 52 state covers, to assume they will be that lazy and poorly done is absurd and nitpicky as hell.

Who's assuming? Are those not the real covers that they posted? I'm not assuming anything, I'm looking at the poorly done photoshopped images that DC posted, and they don't look good.

What do you think variant covers are? They serve two purposes:

1) More sales for the company
2) Another cover for collectors to have

The consumer benefit is there - they get a new cover. How are the 52 variants any different? DC gets more sales, consumers get more covers to collect, if they're into that kind of thing. Do you not think the variants will artificially increase sales?

Let's say that 1 in 20 people buy cover A and their state, 1 in 50 add a second variant, and 1 in 1000 buy all of them; I'll also assume base sales of 100k. That would equal:

100,000 copies - Cover A
5,000 copies - One variant
2,000 copies - second variant
5,000 copies - all 52 variants

Those numbers, arbitrary as they may be, instantly add 12% to the total sales. DC is even giving the option of buying all 52 in one pack, which cuts down the hunting people would have to do, meaning they're more likely to go for it. There will also be a lot of people who are going to buy their state variant, even though they wouldn't have bought the book otherwise.

Now, like I've said a few times now - I think it's a great idea, as far as variants go. But I'm failing to see why it's less of a gimmick than what Marvel does; it's just done a little differently. And while I like the idea, the covers look awful. I would have gotten a Texas cover, but not if the flag looks like that.

I chose Netflix because it's cheap and it has a lot of great TV series and movies on there. That graphic that Sage posted explains it better than I could. =p I don't think the US has LoveFilm though.

Agreed - the TV selection alone makes Netflix worth the cash; granted, I mooch off my girlfriend's account, but would gladly pay if that wasn't the case. I owe Netflix for my enjoyment of several TV series from the beginning, plus repeated viewings of many more shows.

On that subject, how many TV series do people here watch? I'm currently watching 18 different shows on a week-to-week basis. It's getting ridiculous. I'll also be adding Community (finally!) and Whitney (guilty pleasure) when they return for a total of 19. They are (in order from best to worst):

Seriously, Homeland is amazing. I was worried that the first season would go down as a one hit wonder, but season two is even better. The only show I've watched that might be better than Homeland is Breaking Bad - they both have seats reserved in the TV Show Hall of Fame (if there is one).

In other drama, Boardwalk continues being great, Walking Dead is a HUGE improvement over season 2, and Dexter is a big jump up from previous seasons. While I didn't watch the first season, I'm digging the new American Horror Story. Nashville, however, is pretty bland, but I live in Nashville, so it's fun to see a show full of places around me; at the same time, I think that people who work in the music industry here are actually less likely to enjoy it, which is probably why I'm not a big fan. And despite a great premise, Revolution is falling flat, though I'm not surprised by any means. It is certainly not the next Lost.

In the comedy worst, Parks and Rec continues to reign supreme. Every issue is a gem. FX is still killing it with The League and Sunny. 30 Rock might not be as great as it was, but the final season is shaping up to be a good one. The big surprise is how good the Office is this year - it hasn't been this good since Jim and Pam got married; last season was really bad, but this one is solid. And don't mock Animal Practice - it is hilarious lowest-common-denomonator animal humor! Though I'm not surprised it was already cancelled. Meanwhile, the once great How I Met Your Mother continues limping towards a finish line that remains far out of sight. It is now one of the most boring comedies on TV; it should have ended years ago.

So in case you can't tell... I'm a big fan of television. Serialized fiction is such a great way to tell stories; it's why I love comic books.

Anyone have any other shows to recommend? With winter on the way, we're about to enter midseason break, so I'll need something to watch! (There's no way I'm starting a new show right now though) I'm already planning to watch BSG sometime, and there's some premium cable shows I have on my radar, but I'm always looking for suggestions.

Yeah - it's got loads of replay value. I've already watched it at least 3 times in 3D since my roommate bought it... maybe four. It's a great movie to throw on late on Friday night when everyone in the house is a drink or two from falling asleep.

I'll see if I can't borrow Halo 3 from a friend if I ever get some time. I haven't had the chance to play games much this semester. =(

Stargate Universe. You don't even need to watch the earlier Stargate series. I didn't and it was still awesome. Battlestar Galactica is the series that is both Popular and awesome. Stargate Universe is the series that isn't as popular but is still as awesome and if it wasn't cancelled I am sure that it would have been better then BSG. It deserved all the respect it gets and more but it didn't get it. Which is sad because I really connected to the crew. And it had better CGI then BSG which not a lot of people know about. I think the series is on Netflix and I do recommend watching it. BSG opening sequence was mind-blowing but Stargate Universe opening scene was beautiful. BSG and Stargate Universe are really the only shows that I really advocate for people to watch aggressively because they really missed out if they didn't.
